Another Moleskine Pen Holder

You've got to have a pen to go with that Moleskine. Here's my solution.

Step 1: Cut the elastic to size.

I used 1 inch wide elastic although you could use wider for a larger pocket. It needs to have some overlap like I've demonstrated in the picture. The final circle needs to be small enough so that it fits on the front cover snugly.

For this project, I cut the elastic 21 inches long, so that it would fit a large Moleskine (8 inch x 5 inch).

BRILLIANT idea - I went right ahead and made one for my writing journals, and simply couldn't do without it now! Frees up the built-in elastic for section marking, or keeping pages out of the way. A classic!

By instead using a a piece of (real elastic) jersey or ribbing, you could make a huge pocket, if wanted. Just wanted to mention it, in case having a bigger pocket would be something for someone... :) E.g. for a cell phone... :) Some fabrics now, even if they're not ribbing, are highly elastic (since they started using higher amounts of lycra/spandex)... You could also make like a phone sock and sew that onto an elastic line the one above (then you could use the top of an odd sock for the pocket, so many cute ones now - and even have both that *and* the pen pocket).

This was a perfect design to hold a fisher space pen on a 5" moleskine notebook. I made six of them and handed them out to my GTD frieinds. Here's a photo

I've already built two holders: one for my notebook, and one for my sketchbook! I used the 1 1/2 inch wide elastic, though. That ended up allowing me enough room for two pens and/or pencils...

GREAT IDEA!!!! what i find works better in a cinch is the elastic ring on top of an old pair of socks "without a friend" works great though

What a great idea! This could be used to keep a pen with any book you wanted to make notes in. I'm going to make a bunch of these for stocking stuffer Christmas gifts.

Awesome mod. I love how the elastic band idea allows me to use the same holder for other similar sized notebooks. Swappable! :D
