Here is my recipe to success for Breakfast, this is a very filling and tasty brekkie everyone will like.

If you don't like oats I encourage you to try this recipe, it is sweet and not gluey like normal oats.

All you will need is:

  1. Oats
  2. Water
  3. Small pot
  4. Measurements
  5. wooden spoon
  6. peeler
  7. knife
  8. Apple
  9. Honey

I have no sizes here because I don't know how much you eat, I eat a lot so my one serve is probably two serves for you.

To make my brekkie you will need:

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 1Tbsp honey
  • 2 medium apples
  • the measurements I used were the following:
    • 1 cup

I am fairly good at estimating so I didn't need the other measurements.

Anyway, lets get on to the recipe!

Step 1: Oat Ratio.

The normal ratio for oats to water is the following:

PLAIN OATS: 1 XX of oats to 2 XX water (XX=measurement) e.g. 1 cup oats and 2 cups water.

OATS WITH DRIED FRUIT: 1 XX oats to 1.8 XX water e.g. 1 cup oats and 1 1/7th cups of water and 1/3 cup of dried fruit.

OATS WITH FRESH FRUIT: 1 XX oats to 1.5 XX water e.g. 1 cup oats and 1 1/5 cups water and half a up of fruit.

Step 2: Prepare the Oats Part One.

Firstly you have to prepare the oats, get your cup of oats and pour into the pot, now measure out your water and pour it into the pot, you don't have to rush the apples because the oats taste better if they sit in the water for a few minutes.

Step 3: Prepare the Apple Part Two.

Now it is time to prepare the apple, you need to peel the apple and then cut it into quarters, once it is in quarters you need to slice it again, each quarter into four or five.

Put it into the pot with the oats and honey, cook for about 7 minutes or until there is no water separation, the water should be fully absorbed by the oats.

If you want you can add cinnamon, it will taste different (probably better, I don't like cinnamon) or any other things like dried fruit.

Put the pot onto the stove at about half power, turn it on full to warm the hotplate and then back it off to half, it will seem to take forever but put it any hotter and it will burn.

Do not put the lid on the pot while the oats are cooking and as tempting as it may be never leave them to "do a quick chore" they WILL burn!

You need to be stirring them continuously for the best results.

Serve in a bowl, don't serve with the spoon in the bowl - it will get really hot and burn you (or your guest).

**NEVER LEAVE THE OATS UNATTENDED** they WILL BURN!!

Step 4: Clean Up.

I strongly suggest brushing out the pot and bowl you used before leaving them sit, the oats will harden and will end up needing to be chipped off, that can ruin the dish.

Please just give them a quick scrub, you don't have to get them squeaky clean - you just have to remove the bulk of the oats before they harden.

Nice, I bet it's really delicious! I love the tip to clean off quickly at the end, I have definitely chipped oats off of a bowl before, it's difficult. Thanks for sharing!

It is really good, the aim of cutting the apple so small is so every spoon full of oats you get a chunk of sweet apple, mixed with honey it is a must for any breakfast!

The workers at Instructables should try smaller recipes like this one before deciding if it gets featured or not, this is really simple but it makes the oats a whole lot better.

I ate oats for brekkie for about 2 years straight, I was turned off them like crazy - I am just getting back into them now and finding ways to conquer the "bad taste" I have aquired for oats.

This I must try! my son hates oats :-|

You must try it, please let me know the result - I will be surprised if he doesn't like them.

If he doesn't like it you should boil the apple for a minute or two to soften it and bring out the flavour.
