Introduction: Apple Pie Stop Motion

About: I love all things tinkering, digital, analog, real life, online, it doesn't matter. Everything can be modified.

In this Instructable you will see an apple pie assemble itself through the magic of stop motion video! Not only that, I'll give you step-by-step instructions and recipe as well! Let's get started!

Step 1: Ingredients

First things first, let's get our stuff together! Preheat that oven to 425*(F) and start collecting ingredients!

We will need:

Vessel:
1 Pie Pan or Plate

Crust:
2 refrigerated pie crusts (1 box usually comes with 2 crusts)

Filling:
Aprrox. 6 Medium-sized Apples (peeled and sliced)
3/4 Cup Sugar
3/4 Tsp. Ground Cinnamon
1/8 Tsp. Ground Nutmeg
1/4 Tsp. Salt
2 Tbsp. All-Purpose Flour
1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice

Step 2: Peel and Slice Apples

Peel the apples and slice them into thin slices. Easily done using a potato peeler and a sharp knife. 6 medium sized apples should be enough, but again, that's an approximation.

Step 3: Combine Filling

Comine the sliced apples with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and salt in a large bowl and mix them until all slices are relatively well coated.

Step 4: Prepare the Crust!

Time for the crust.
The Bottom:
Unroll the first crust and place in the vessel, gently pressing it into the bottom and sides of the dish.

The Top:
Option 1: Cut the second crust into 1/2" strips for a lattice top. (as shown in this Instructable)
Option 2: Unroll and wait for Step 5.

Step 5: Fill It Up!

Pour the filling into the pie crust, making sure it is filled evenly for a uniform pie!

Now it's time for the topping!

For option 1 (lattice top): take every other strip and place approximately 1/2" apart on the top of the pie. Take the rest of the rest and lay perpendicular to the first run. remove over hanging pieces and pinch edges together to seal the crust.

For option 2 (solid top): Place the unrolled crust on top of the pie, pinching the edges together to seal the crust.

*Optional step: prepare an egg wash using 1 egg and a couple tablespoons of water mixed together, and brush over the top crust for a nice golden finish!

Time for the oven!

Step 6: Bake!

We've already preheated our oven to 425*(F), so all we need to do now is stick the pie on the middle rack and set the timer for 40-45 minutes or until apples are tender and the crust is golden brown. Place a foil shield on the edge of the crust after the first 15-20 minutes of baking. Cool on a cooling rack for about an hour and then dig in!

Step 7: Recipe

Here is the recipe in it's entirety:

INGREDIENTS

Crust
1 box (2 crusts) refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box

Filling
6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (6 medium)
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice

DIRECTIONS

Heat oven to 425°F. Place 1 pie crust in ungreased 9-inch glass pie plate. Press firmly against side and bottom.

In large bowl, gently mix filling ingredients; spoon into crust-lined pie plate. Top with second crust. Press edges together to seal. For solid top, cut slits or shapes in several places in top crust. For lattice top, cut crust into 1/2" strips and place every other strip 1/2" apart atop the pie, rotate pie 90* and place remaining strips in the same fashion.

Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Cover edge of crust with 2- to 3-inch wide strips of foil after first 15 to 20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning. Cool on cooling rack at least 2 hours before serving.
