Arduino

The Arduino is an open-source micro controller development system that easily interfaces with a computer via USB. The Arduino makes working with micro controllers so simple that people with little electronics experience can hit the floor running. Also, because it is open-source, individuals with a little more in-depth knowledge can access the source-code and expand upon the existing platform to suit their needs. Since it is so versatile, there is a large array of Arduino projects on Instructables for individuals of any skill level to start exploring the wild world of Arduino development.

is there any way to use one of those arduino thingys to make a wired usb device wireless, i have a logitech g13 and use it to play games on my lounge chair although the cord is constantly getting tangled and it will probably get cut sooner or later.

One question. Where can you find an Arduino?

Arduinos are everywhere...you just need to know where to look. Adafruit, Make Mouser, Ebay, amazon, spark fun, pololu, etc. Of course, you can also build one...

I just bought this one off of ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260403092528
came out to 33$ with taxes.

that's a freeduino...

You say potato I say vodka... They both do the same thing, also if you compare the Arduino Duemilanove and the freeduino, you will see that they are identical in components and layout. The only difference being that the Arduino uses surface mounts where as the freeduino uses through hole components (so the beginner hobbiest can put it together). It is also cheaper than the Duemilanove by about 20$ if you include shipping.

An advantage to buying an Arduino is that it supports the people that actually made projects like this easier. While I do think it's good to have options, I also believe in putting money where I know it's furthering ideas. That's worth a few bucks.

Of course, I also don't shop at Walmart.

(and yes, I'm replying to an old post, but it's still out there...)

Well...He asked for a Genuine One...Not the Clone, Even though the Clones are just as good, You could Get the Real deal for only a few bucks more, Personally i would prefer getting the original before i start trying out clones...

I have a Arduino clone, no problems so far. My clone came complete with a wire kit, leds, switches, lcd display, all for $45 delivered to the UK

So far so good

But it's best to shop around.

They seem to be sold at a lot of internet sites - I am quite tempted to buy one of the dev kits myself due to all the cool projects around!
I am not sure what advantage they have over Microchip PIC devices though - I'll do some more digging!

my first microcontroller was a pic, one of the 8 pin 16f series, very good for the money but i found them quite slow to program, arduino's have a much simpler more straightforward language and are far more compatible with different pc's (myprogrammer board would only connect via parallel port...)

For the most part you can, in theory, do the same stuff. The Arduino is handy because it uses a simple coding language, and because it is open source people are very inclined to post finished code and some nice libraries. It also allows for simple programming, just plug into the comp, program then test. It is nice not having to use/buy a dev baord if you are only doing small projects. Check arduino.cc for info

A blog "Arduino for Beginners", from a different perspective. I cover topics like basic electronics, Arduino & shields, Should you make or buy one? Different types of sensors, where can we use them & many other topics for beginners..

This is not another Arduino HOWTO with circuits, schematics & sketches...

it is an absolutely amazing and simple microprocessor you upload the easy to use code from your computer onto the board, and use the "plug and play" wires and what not that come with a starter set

I have completed a class in PLC programming. This Arduino looks like it would be fun to learn. Are there any websites/instructions that can show a novice like me to programmable electronics how to use these controllers?
