Introduction: Argentine Empanadas

my husband grew up in argentina, and has a love for their spanish/italian mesh of food- sounds interesting,eh??
i was always afraid to try anything that required actual making of dough, but this is very simple and turns out wonderfully!
the recipe comes from several tries and mess ups, so please appreciate!
they are REALLY fattening and delicious, so if you are worried about calorie counting, you are ON YOUR OWN with all of my recipes!
my food motto: EAT WHAT YOU WANT, YOU WILL DIE OF CANCER ONE DAY !!!

Step 1: THE FILLING

1 lb ground beef
1/2 onion,chopped
1 jar sliced green olives
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped
1 tbs cumin

brown ground beef and simmer with remaining ingredients for 10 minutes.

i have also made this with pulled pork, which also tastes great. pretty much any meat can be used, the cumin seems to make this recipe.

Step 2: THE DOUGH

dont be afraid- this is VERY EASY-
stir together 3 cups all purpose flour, 1tbs sugar, and 1/2 tsp salt in large bowl.
make a hole in the middle of the ingredients, and add 1 egg yolk, 3/4 cup COLD water, and 2tbs cooking oil.
stir together until it forms a ball, turn out onto a floured surface.
knead the dough with your hands for about 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
divide dough into about 15-20 small balls, and roll each until flat and thin. add flour if they become too sticky.

Step 3: Make the Things Already!

fill each rounded dough with about 3 spoonfuls of filling, and fold over, using water to seal the edges.
mine arent too pretty, but they sure taste good!
fry them in cooking oil until browning on outside.

Step 4: Enjoy!
