Introduction: Armoring Your MLP

About: I am a cardboard blacksmith, hard at work making armor and accessories. Skyrim, Sword Art Online, and Lord of the Rings all the way. If there is anything you'd like to see me make, I'd love the challenge!

Bronies, Pegasisters, take up arms! For the day of Battle Ponies is at hoof!

Step 1: Materials

Cardboard

Tape

Small rubber bands

MLP figure

Step 2: Getting the Cardboard Ready

This requires a thin sheet of cardboard, which can be acquired by carefully peeling a piece of corrugated cardboard apart.

You may use the wavy part as well, for decoration.

Step 3: Lessons in Barding.

Barding is the term for Horse armor.

Step 4: The Breastplate

Cut out a small rectangle from the cardboard sheet, leaving tabs on either side of the top edge. See 1st picture.

Other than this, you may make this any shape you want.

You may need to add holes for wings.

Wrap the resulting breastplate around the body of your Pony as shown.

Fold the tabs down.

Use a small rubber band to secure this. Make sure you can take the rubber band of if you wish to be able to remove the Barding.

Step 5: The Chamfron

Cut a piece the width of your Pony's face from the cardboard sheet. Make sure it is a decent length.

Cut so the Pony's eyes are visible. (You may instead choose to make eye slits rather than holes)

Cut a hole for the horn if necessary.

Cut two slits in the sides of the chamfron, roughly where the forehead is to curve downward.

Fold the chamfron as shown,(Pictures 5&6).

The tabs should overlap. Tape them together.

Cut the back of the chamfron down and cut a slight hole for the mane. (Pic 7)

Attach with a small rubber band.

Step 6: The Sabatons

Cut a piece of the cardboard sheet into your desired design, leaving a large rectangle at the bottom.

Cut slits in the rectangle to create tabs.

One by one, tape these tabs together.

Make sure the Sabaton fits snugly on the Pony.

You may need up to four of these.

Step 7: Arming Your Pony

You can use toy weapons from action figures; TMNT, G.I.Joe, Transformers, Etc.

Test what your Pony looks best with.

Shields are helpful too.

I used a small sword.

To make a scabbard, first cut the shape you want from the cardboard sheet, then fold in half.

Tape shut.

To attach to your Pony, tape a small rubber band onto the scabbard, tilted as shown, then secure it.

Then you can simply slip the rubber band onto your Pony.

Step 8: Color

Color your Pony's armor as desired.

Step 9: Finish!

I found a small pewter dragon bead ornament and stuck it on last second.

Have fun, and be creative!

Sincerely yours,

Nemesis.
