Step 2 Step 2: Attach the first bolt to the mending plate

If your mending plate is only just big enough for the screws you might have to actually screw this bolt to get it through. As long as you can get the nut flush against the mending plate, you should be good. Otherwise you will need a mending plate with wider holes.
