We recently finished the storage section of our shop. I wanted to share this idea with everyone. This project is not something that would work with an existing building. I wanted to share this for those who are planning on building one from scratch. Our building was built with with heavier materials to hold the weight and was inspected by the state and passed all building codes. Every state is different in their codes of course. Check with your state to see how you might beef up your shop for extra storage if you are planning on building one from scratch. Hopefully you can see enough from the pictures to see how it was done. My husband did not want to finish off the ceiling of the shop so the plywood was nailed on top of the rafter boards so it would hold the weight of the things being stored. I painted the plywood. The shop is 12' X 24'. I loved his idea because I will be storing a lot of my stuff out there and it will be easy for me to do by myself. I also liked the open area that extends all the way so you can put things on either side without crawling through a small opening.
