Awesome LED Dome

Here are some pics of my recent LED project, It consists of 85 red green and blue LEDs and is powered by a wall adapter. It is insanely bright and made out of a simple kitchen strainer. Please feel free to leave your opinion in the comments, I am allways open to new ideas. Also my computer isint making picture captions correct so I appologize that there are either none or random ones.

you must have quite a bit of patience to solder 85 leds like that!
did you ever have any problems with short circuits in that soldering set-up, considering it (looks like) is a metal strainer?

i give you kudos for this, thats a lot of soldering!

Thanks, the strainer is plastic so it wouldnt short on that but some of the wires do come close. Once I was done with the soldering I gave it a nice heavy coating of liquid electrical tape just to be safe in case something moved.

i havent heard of liquid electrical tape much before, would you suggest using it over regular electrical tape?

It is some chemical mixture that you apply generously to electrical conections as needed, I recomend it for tight spaces such as this project but it isint perfect so if you have the room go for normal tape. Also it is extremely flamable so make shure you dont solder any where near it or expose it to temperatures over the label's specified temperature.

Okay, seems to be a good idea to use it. Where did you get it and what is the name?

zack247 is right, wow! How on earth did you keep that thing from short-circuiting? Also, that is the best use of a colander I've seen that isn't a: straining pasta or veggies or b: a makeshift helmet.

This would make a very fashionable high visibility helmet for cycling or road works at night.

Thanks, It doesn't short curcit due to some carefull positioning and tons of liquid electrical tape, I wish I took some in progress pictures to show all of the wires inside but sadly I didnt.
