I have a solution for anybody who thinks they will need to change the battery. Instead of using a battery to power the LED, you could use inductive coupling (a.k.a wireless electricity). However, this would only work if you wanted to place it on a table an light up, or something like that....

im having trouble with the soldering the wires part, can someone make a video on that specific part?

How about making a smaller second "cube", with no bottom, but a top the same size as the top of this?

Then you could plug the one into the other and you can change the batteries whenever you want.
+sandpaper to diffuse the light.
If you want to throw it around you could make a bit tighter plugging connection. (maybe with silicone or something at the bottom, so that it doesn't glide as much)

you could just use superglue, it leaves a vapor when it dries, you could pour some in the bottom and it would fog up the sides.

fill it up with hot glue? like fill the box in side with hot glue and hot glue the battery and all thet?
Mar 8, 2010. 12:39 PMCaseBoy says:
you have to fill it with hot glue.

wait if A fill it up with hot glue how A are going to change the battery if it goes bad ?

you could design it to have a face of the cube to be opened so you could replace things, and you could use screws to seal it

ok, ii am TOTALLY guestimating here, cos i have NO experience with this sort of stuff, BUT! couldnt u make it so that none of the metal designs cross over sides? or at least 1 side where the bits of metal on that face dont touch any other bits of metal on any other faces? because then u could do the frosting spray thing, and make a little door out of one side, using mini hinges or something? then, hey presto! easy batterie access............. or u could just make 10 so that when 1 ran out u could just start playing with the next one
Nov 16, 2009. 10:13 PMKryptonite says:
Yeah that works, but you still can't change the battery because you glued it all in.

try hot gluing the led in the middle of the box

why dont u just use sand peaper then

The idea is... You don't. But if you look at other instructables, you might find a way. Most of them are just showing off the end result other people achieved, but if you read them and look through all the pictures, you can find a way to do it. I saw one guy do it, but I don't know that he filled his completely. Look around and find some ideas. I drilled a hole in the side of one of the squares, large enough for a battery, and I put some hot glue around the inside edge with some wire going through the glue to act as battery terminals. While the glue was hot I put a pre-cut piece of paper (I used some thick note card paper, but you can use what you want) - slightly larger than the hole - on the hot glue. When I filled the cube with hot glue, it melted through some of the hot glue barrier. But I was able to clean it out. I later covered the hole with a piece of metal. I hot glued it on. So to get it off, I'll have to heat the glue, replace the batteries and then re-glue the piece of metal. It seems like a lot of hassle, but I don't expect to replace the batteries very frequently. Did you understand what I was saying? If not please ask. That's a lot to take in at once. Especially when someone is trying to describe both a process, and an object at the same time.

Well worded.

With what i also can diffuse the light, i don'w have a hot-glue gun..
Dec 20, 2009. 8:35 PMmeso222 says:
the best non glue way would probably be silicone for difussion but if you use the non clear scotch tape it has a fogyness to it so a layer or 2 on the inside would probably do the trick
Dec 20, 2009. 10:54 AMdagenius says:
fill it with silicone???

Yes, good idea :)

could you put clear silicone in the cube instead of hot glue?
Aug 20, 2009. 4:12 PMOnyxxStone says:
i wouldnt, but yeah
Jul 28, 2009. 11:29 PMrandumb says:
Instead of using glue,or silicone to diffuse the led.sand it with. 120 grit sandpaper.quick, easy, & no wasted glue.

I've literally tried making this thing 4 times and everytime i fill the cube with glue the light no longer works. My connections are good, the switch is away from the glue but the light just stops working. PLEASE HELP ME, any ideas?
Jul 18, 2009. 8:34 AMPAKIS-RULEZ says:
dont fill it with glue just cut the white garbage bag and stick it inside same effect as defused if u fill whole thing with glue u wasting glue and is not worth it...
Jul 16, 2009. 5:27 PMsir-zeke says:
maybe the heat from the hot glue is burning out your light. i would sugest just covering the walls with hot glue (before you glue them toghether) thats what i did
See! http://www.instructables.com/id/AllSparkLED-Cube/

here is mine thanks for the tut though i made it differently i just took ur idea and modified it a bit :D

bro don't fill it with glue lol use white garbage bad cut it and stick it in the cube thats wat i did filling it with gluse is wasting money lol and glue...
May 2, 2009. 12:02 PMstarfiend360 says:
im wondering about the whole "fill the cube with glue" part. do i just stick the gun in the cube and sqeeze the trigger till its full? thats kind of.... strange. it also makes it so you cant change the battery. you'll have to make a whole new one when it dies. anyone have any advice on how to fix that?
Jul 6, 2009. 4:05 PMsquirrelMLM says:
You could put a "door" on one of the sides and screw it in, not soldering the battery but makin a holder out of more glass and allumium foil. is that too confusing? if it is i'll try to draw a picture... :D
Jul 4, 2009. 6:13 PMknibbles says:
You could replace the battery with two wires and attach those to some AA batteries. But the effect would be less cool.

yes, instead of putting the whole box with glue, just shmere about 2-3 layers along each side. also, instead of using metal sheets for the design, yuo can use foil duct tape. it is cheaper, easier to cut, and if you mess up, you can take it off
Jul 4, 2009. 2:48 AMlozzie_pie says:
it may be easier and cheaper, but the end result would be les cool
May 14, 2009. 2:59 PMjumajuce says:
You could put a thin layer glue on each individual square that way you get the effect and can change the battery
