MATERIALS: THE BARREL SKIRT TEMPLATE , AUTODESK SKETCHBOOK PRO 6 AND A PHOTOSHOP SOFTWARE

Step 1:

1. Open the barrel skirt template in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 6. Once it's open you're going to want to crop away the bottom half (back view) of the skirt then rotate it 90 degrees left/right.

Step 2: ROTATING and DUPLICATING

2. Take the rotated barrel skirt and duplicate the layer two to three times. Next you're going to want to enlarge one of the duplicate layers by stretching it vertically and horizontally.

Step 3: STRETCHING and LAYERING

3. Using another duplicate layer of the rotated barrel skirt move that layer up so that you can see the enlarged layer underneath. Stretch to fit the image to cover button/zipper outline of the layer below it. Take enlarge layer and duplicate then using the crop tool and eraser tool go around the thick seams of the barrel opening of the skirt. This image would be use to make the straps of the barrel tote bag. You're also going to want to duplicate the strap layer and mirror it.

Step 4: ALIGNING and MERGING

4. Properly align the layers for the body of the bag. Create a layer that would be used to color in the closing flap and body of the bag with a darker color but make sure the seams and sides of the bag stay the same. After you've done that then you can properly adjust the straps and make a buckle texture for them on a different layer. Merge the buckle and straps layer then align them with the corners of the bag.

Step 5: COLORING and CLEANING UP

5. Only because I wasn't able to achieve the look that I wanted when texturing and coloring through Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 6 I had to resort to using a photoshop software. After saving and merging all elements to the barrel tote bag you would then have to open it up in the photoshop program. Once you do this you should be able to create a fill layer using the color black then changing the layer setting and opacity (depending on the kind of program you have). Last phases of this step is to use an eraser on the color layer only over the parts of the buckles/snap then take the magic wand tool to crop out the image on the color layer. Don't forget to crop out the center space between the straps. Merge both layers together and save :)
