i just started my rubber band ball yesterday and its about an inch in diameter. it has a rubber core, but I find that if you use a different material for the core it tends to bounce higher....
bobby45056 years ago
not to ruin this instructable, but if u want to bounce high but it is too hard to use pure rubber band use a corner of a piece of paper and start out with braces rubber bands and work ur way up.DO NOT MAKE PAPER WOD TO BIG!
stranoster (author)  bobby45056 years ago
Thats basically what the instructable is. Instead of using a pure rubber core, you use another substance. I said you could use small bands initially around the aluminium foil Wad, but I guess paper would do just as well.
lol i used a wad of rubberbands only one though, and my one bounces extreme high and only 1"
for mine, I just took a band and tied quite a few knots in it, like you said about the foil, it works itself out later and becomes a sphere.
bobby45056 years ago
actually, smll(tiny) piece of foil would work good

newest largest rubberband ball is 9,032 pounds it on ebay 100k look it up

Here's a link . That redirects to the tinyurl site so you know it isn't a baloney link.
id love to buy and make bigger and take credit and be in geuniss, that would be cheap though...

its harder at the beginning than later on...
would've never thought of using a core of a different material =D
but i would prefer a rubber band core anyways
me and my friend have a 40 pound one

moving bandsCheck out these large rubber bands. Otherwise known as moving bands. They have these up to 44" long before being stretched.

if u started off with foil or something like that ur cheating. i started off with rolling up elastic bands and mine is about 3 n a half tennis balls next to each other n it weighs 2.1 kilos its really easy but u need alot of patience.
cam124 hhfghgd6 years ago
mine is pure rubber no foil and it wiehgs in at half a stone (3.17 kg) and it bounces quite nicly and i can play basket ball with it but i wudnt want to try catch it

hey im new to this site but ive been making a rubber band ball for a few weeks now and its already about the size of a basketball and its all with ONE elastic band that my dad brought home from work for free. its all rubber and seein as i have a reasonalbly sized box filled with ONE elastic band (well not so much a band but more a ribbon) ive hardly scratched the surface and ive got a hell of alot more to go thruogh so by the end of it i think it might swamp a basket ball and probebly weigh more than 10 kgs heres an image of my progress so far

Wow, that really is an excellently long rubber band :) . What line of work is your dad in that he can get one of those? I know people who work in the post office who get the 12cm ones for free... Nothing even close to that though! Great effort.
he works in a wherehouse and it was meant to have bin sent to this factory but they had 1 left over and my dad just took it like wen they used to have buckets of sweets he used top bring home the left overs

try useing a bouncy ball as the the core
i used a bouncy ball as the core of mine. it is 15 cm/ 5 in across and weighs 5 pounds

I think they slip too much, as with marbles. Alfoil has natural crevices to start

why does it have to be aluminium foil? wat's wrong with tin foil?

I have a rubber band ball thats currently about 7+KGS which is about 15/16 pounds. Hes like my baby, all my friends even love him like that. We named him Malcolm (Y) check him ay www.myspace.com/mtothealcolm i put more rubber bands on him tonight, about 1kg worth. havent yet taken a picture of that but, maybe tomorrow afternoon after school. :)
I made on that is currently at 16 pounds and cost me 200$ on rubber bands

For those purists who want a ball with a rubber heart note that you don't need to start with foil. I start with about 5-10 bands scrunched up into a small ball-shaped bundle and start wrapping bands around that. Works just fine.

if you wana save rubber bands then use a balloon

its still rubber =)

Eh. It's better to make a real one. Solid to the core, make purely of rubber bands! All i did was scrunch up some broken rubber bands, and then warp one around it. Then i kept on wrapping. Now it's about tennis-ball size.
wow iv neaver seeeeeeeeeeeeeeen 1 like dat before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys! I just saw this Instructable and I want to show you my Rubber Band Ball. It is currently 7 pounds and made of purely rubber bands.

you don't need anything to start a an elastic band ball from. you start it with just elastic bands, hence it being called an elastic band ball. if you put foil in it, it's just foil covered in elastic bands. and it won't bounce either.

o yeah newspapers are good for rubber bands
X_D_3_M_17 years ago
my mom taught me to use a small rectangle of folded paper to start. it was hard

Hi, My son and i have just started to build a rubber ball purely from elastic bands. We thought we'd look up "Worlds largest" to see what we were up against! And came across you guys!! So Hello....! We started our rubber ball purely from ONE small elastic band and just tied it into a knot, then began wrapping bands around it. It is still only very small... but we only use rubber bands that we find lying around.... we haven't bought any yet and will try to continue to use only 'found' bands..... WISH US LUCK! P.S. We think using foil in the centre is cheating....Tee Hee!
how big is it now?
HA~ I'm doing the same thing! but mine is really big! it's made from a knot! It took me a week with a pound bag of elastics, it's now the size of a soft ball and wieghts about 2 pounds. I just got another bag to add to it. I don't know if I'LL EVER need this many elastics in my life but oh well

Thanks! I'd love to see a picture of it sometime! Its nice to see people finding the site which incidentally is a very incredibly awesome diy site! I am only 13 and yet my ball is a basketball sized one now. problem is finding giant rubber bands so my dads works stationary cupboard has been raided a few times. Well now I've posted my big post for the day I'm done. Happy instructabling!
all you got to do is cut and tie the rubberbands to gether to make a biger one

i made a rubberband ball (on my own, not after reading this). I didnt start with foil. I rolled rubber bands into a ball and i wrapped it around that one. Its abouth half an inch larger than a major league baseball.

Shouldn't use foil (which seems to be the main novelty here) - we don't need to be told how to make rubberband balls (do we?)
