Bulb Plants

Every night we need bulbs to bring us the light, so we would not live in dark. As everything else in our daily life, bulb has a lifetime also. Will we throw it away when it’s dead or try to recycle to let it make some contribution to our life? Now I will introduce an easy and useful way of the recycle using bulbs; the bulb plants.

Step 1: Step 1

Step 1: Preparation. We need to prepare the tools and materials. Bulb, absolutely used, pliers, screwdriver, iron wire, gloves, soil and small plants. After everything was prepared, we will start our work.

Step 2: Step 2

Step 2: Making a hole on bulb. As we all know, the head of bulb was blocked by some plastic and some metals, if we want to put soil and let small plants go into bulb and grow up, so the very first step will be make a hole. The only way will take the plastic and metal off. What we have to do is put on gloves, because metals would hurt your hand when you making the hole. Using pliers to take the plastic part off first then take off mental parts (Figure 2). Be sure the process should be really slow and careful. Because we need to make sure the edge of the metal head is smooth after our job. The figure 3 is showing what the bulb looks like after our work.

Step 3: Step 3

Step 3: Taking out the wick. The bulb has two main parts, glass cover and the wick. We need to take out the wick from the inside of bulb. The method is using the screwdriver, put the screwdriver in the hole, which we just made at step 2, and push it, the wick will be broken by screwdriver and fall into the bulb. Keep pushing and spinning, take off all the wick and making the hole mad in first step 2 bigger. (Figure 4)
After all the wick part is falling in to bulb, take the screwdriver off and pour those wick part out though the hole.

Love these type of projects - great creativity and cool end result! Thanks for sharing it.
Great Instructable!! Your steps were easily understandable, grammar and spelling were just fine! Photos are clear and show each step clearly. Great Job... more please! Are they kitchen door 'bump-ons' used in the final photo as feet? The little adhesive backed rubber nodes used to stop cabinet doors banging when closing? Brilliant.

This is a great idea! It might be a little easier to follow if the grammar was improved, but I love the concept. It would be interesting to see if you could incorporate a yellowish LED light to make the bulb light up at night so it would play dual roles.
