Step 11: Make a matching sheath of Leather or Kydex

Make a nice sheath of Leather or Kydex. I chose leather for this Baby Bear! You can lace the sheath two ways. See  left side of pic. showing two ways to lace with rawhide.

Just wanted to say as a bit of a leatherworker, I suggest using waxed thread to sew together your leather. Leather is subject to rotting if it gets wet. Using a wax thread will prevent water from sitting under the grooves of the leather and getting into the lacing holes, which will cause it to rot very quickly. This lacing is just fine of course and is perfectly acceptable, not putting you down! I love the knife for sure (My good friend makes knives!). But for survival use a better bet would definitely be the waxed thread. :)

Thank you for your input. FYI my leather is silicone treated. I have been making these sheaths since 1975. I have never ever had any problems with them. I have sold many and even have been asked to make sheaths and scabbards for a well known knifemaker in the N. E. Cheers & Happy New Year!

Thanks for explaining that. I had also wondered, because you write in the description that you are lacing it with rawhide, but what I see in the pictures is definitely not rawhide, hehe.

Ahhh! Very cool :D Where can you get that? I've never actually heard of silicone treated leather lol. Are you still able to dye it and all that? Just curious!

Happy new year, hope you had a good holiday :)
