Adorable bib for ADORABLE Baby! Gore-tex idea is great, I haven`t tried searching for it yet. For those who haven`t been able to get ahold of any, what I`ve been doing for years might serve the purpose. I use scraps of poly-quilt batting, layered twice, between co-ordinating fabrics to make bibs soft & cute but they`re also fairly `drool-proof` ;> Do these Puff Bibs to go w/reversible receiving blankets [cotton print/cotton print flannel]. They`re simply edged & tied w/narrow double-fold bias (knot ends of ties). To make this sweet `donut` bib I`d use velcro or larger, hand sewn on snaps, for closing, probably too thick to do a good job attaching ring set in snaps. I do NOT pre-cut layers, instead I trace bib see-thru template on top layer, placing to best advantage on fabric`s print, then carefully stack all layers (batting in-between of course) making sure they extend beyond pattern and pin at corners thru all layers to keep fabric smooth. Lower feed dogs on sewing machine, and starting at right outer corner of bib outline, edge-stitch (looks like a lightin` bolt) all the way around just within the drawn line. Trim carefully (holding excess fabric out of the way) ON drawn line, then edge cut out bib w/bias. I use two-step method for the outer edge & one step-method for ties-neckline-ties. Straight stitch on ties but knit stitch on neckline and 2nd step of bias on bib edge. This knitch alternates one long (tall) zig-zag w/two short zig-zags. The shorted zig-zags stay w/in the bias on the back side and if taller stitch comes a bit over it it still looks nice, like a handtacking stitch :> Same method I use for applying bias to blankets and anything else. Hope this helps those who have had problems applying bias tape, esp. the narrow double fold type. Aloha, Peggy
