After setting up the camera, I:
get a comfortable chair
load up some photography podcasts on the iPod
dress for the weather
bring food and drink
Keep my thumb on the remote shutter release
and wait for the birds
In time, they get used to you and the click of the shutter. Fast movement will scare them, but slow movement is ignored.
