Bacon Roses

Flowers make a nice gift to the friend that needs a smile or for that special someone in your life. Roses are even better. But sometimes even roses don't cut it. Sometimes you need something a little more non-cliché, something...extraordinary... Sometimes, you need BACON.

Did you use a pan with holes in the bottom, and did you ensure that the fat was draining from the pan? If you did that, then they just need to be cooked longer. If the fat stays in the pan they'll take forever to crisp up and wont cook properly.

Has anyone tried putting a date filled with cheese in the middle? I'm curious how it would look! I think I'll try that version!

I just made a dozen for my wife's birthday breakfast this morning. She was in the middle of asking me when I had a chance to go out to buy roses, when she got close enough to see them.

She LOVED them!

It took a while before anyone commented that we were really just eating bacon, eggs and hash-browns.

My wife came back from Alaska (10 hr flight), and I picked her up at the airport with a bouquet of Bacon Roses. She said it was one of the best suprises I have given her. Perfect for when you are hungry and jet lagged.

Thankyou VERY much for the idea. It was really easy to do. One suggestion for those that try this: Cook the bacon for 5 minutes longer than you think is needed. The center does not cook as quickly as the out side.

Next time I might try wraping them around a nail or something so that the center is cooked just as well as the out side.

Good idea. I had the same issue, but didn't even think about a solution because the appearance turned out so well.
ferralll in reply to ferralllMay 26, 2011. 7:48 AM
Oh, and I just a hammer and nail to make the hole in the bottom of the muffin tin. It worked well, and made a nice curved bottom so that grease did not pool much at all.

Bacon's actually relatively healthy when you cook it in a pan, especially when you allow the grease to escape (such as here), so these are... well, not exactly healthy, but a bit further away from walking heart-attack.

if you dont have marbles a good idea would be useing the discarded pettels.. or even mix them... its resorcefull :)

For homecoming at my school you make a lunch for your date the day before the game, and seeing as my date is pretty much obsessed with bacon these will be perfect :)

my question is, how long do they keep? I was thinking I could make them the night before and put them in his lunch, if I make them at say 5:30pm would they keep until 1:10pm the next day? answers appreciated asap :)
kaptaink_cg (author) in reply to ebrown12Sep 6, 2011. 9:57 PM
Well... they keep as long as cooked bacon keeps.. and frankly I'm not sure how long that is? If you refrigerate them over night they will most definitely still be good the following day.

thanks :) that's good to know

I made these for my boyfriend for Fathers Day and they turned out amazing!

Instead of drilling holes in a mini-muffin pan, I found small aluminum butter or sauce cups that were the same size and used those. I placed them on a baking rack in a deep metal pan so the grease could drip through.

I'm thinking about trying these with turkey bacon next time!

I made a whole dozen so we had them refrigerated for a few days. We had fun finding new ways to add them to stuff. Sliced spirals on a salad or in mac n cheese were our favorites.

Awesome! It's great to hear so many people have made these with good results!!

I made these, and they were wonderful. I didn't have a mini muffin tin, however, and was too poor to get one. Instead I made cups out of tin foil and put them in the broiler pan. Poked holes in the bottom, and they worked great! The downside is that you can only make a few this way, my pan could fit 12 of the cups.
