Flowers make a nice gift to the friend that needs a smile or for that special someone in your life. Roses are even better. But sometimes even roses don't cut it. Sometimes you need something a little more non-cliché, something...extraordinary... Sometimes, you need BACON.

I would just like to say, that these roses were not only beautiful, but also tasty, delicious and aromatic!!! After receiving them, I laughed (in the best possible way) every time I looked at them for the first day or two. When he gave me these, I was ecstatically happy to say the least.

This was an incredible idea and well worth the first prize for the bacon contest. I just made this for Valentines day and it was a hit.
Several people have had problems cooking the bacon fully beacuse the fat pools and boils the bacon insead of cooks it. I had the same problem until I opened up the drain holes about the size of a dime, or around 1/2 inch. The larger the holes, the better drainage beacuse bacon fat is your worst enemy, at least for this project!

Thank you so much for this idea!!!

Your instructable inspired me to make a rose bouquet for my husband for Valentine's Day. Thank you!! I didn't quite stick to your method, but I blogged about it and gave you credit for the idea. Hopefully it drives a little traffic your way. :)

Awesome! Thanks!
I like your baking rake method. That definitely alleviates the fat draining problem!

Made these for my girlfriend for V-Day this year. Fairly easy to follow and awesome Instructable (tho it took me closer to 90 minutes from start to finish...kept my bacon in for 45 minutes at 375 to crisp the non-fat edges). I used shiny mini-muffin cups with holes punched in the bottom with a chopstick laid on a roasting pan with grill for the fat to drip into (lifted up the roses a few times to let the fat drain). I also tried different lengths of bacon (some strips cut in half) to make smaller 'buds' and used the leftover petals from the stems for tabletop decoration....she's not a huge flower-lover but she absolutely LOVED these...thanks gang!

And, of course, there should be a "wash the stem pieces" after discarding the petals.

Would it work if I were to wrap part of the rolled bacon with foil (for example around the middle), and just sit it on a rack instead of muffin tins?
kaptaink_cg (author) in reply to lbryant3Jan 17, 2013. 6:18 PM
Possibly. It's worth a try at least!

I made these today! Instead of drilling holes in a muffin pan, I used the muffin paper cups and put a paper towel piece under each. I changed the paper towels when they were halfway cooked. Its messier, but its cheaper! They turned out great and my friend loved them :)

I made these last Valentines day. My boyfriend and his family got a kick out of them. Next year I think I'll try covering them in chocolate. Girls shouldn't be the only ones catered to on Valentines Day!

Also for an easier, less tool handy person like myself, they also work by using a disposable aluminum muffin pan and poking holes with a knife.

I'm not sure why but this makes me very happy. Mm bacon.

Thank you so much for the great instructions and pictures! I didn't want to drill holes in a muffin pan so I used a jalapeno popper grill rack. I turned them half way through and they came out great! Now, using the thinner cut bacon won't work because they won't be wide enough and will fall through the holes. The thick cut bacon worked great though. Can't wait to give them to my dad for Father's day.

I just wanted to give a proper Thank You! to the author of this. I used these for a recent wedding proposal to my girlfriend and they were a total hit! Thank you so much! They went great with the bacon ring ;)

For anyone curious, I didn't want to drill through a pan so did end up using a "silicone mini-muffin" pan and it worked quite well. I still think a metal pan is likely ideal if you're going to make more than one "batch" though.

Also, wow, the bacon gets even tastier when it's all curled up.
ditzyclutz says: Feb 14, 2012. 9:14 PM
Oh yeah! Mama's bringin home the bacon, baby! These turned out AWESOME! They were sooo easy to make. I picked up everything from the dollar store (2 six-rose stems, 3 green filler stems, 1 green vase, 2 bags of glass floral beads). Only $8.00 + tax, not counting the bacon! I didn't have a mini muffin tin, so I stole Breumer's idea of using the aluminum part of a tea light candle - poked holes in the bottom and set them all on a cookie sheet. Worked perfect! I gave the bacon bouquet to my fella for Valentine's Day today! The best part... upon first glance he didn't even realize they weren't real roses! Thanks for the great idea!

I didn't want to drill holes in my tins so I used a pizza pan with holes in the bottom and put a cookie pan under it. I also skewered the bacon so they would stay together and put some brown sugar on a couple.

And then I made chocolate cupcakes with the intention of making them look like a bouquet....but they exploded so I ad-libbed a little.

Made this for valentines day came out awesome. If you want to save some cash use cupcake liners instead of muffin pan worked fine.

I am vegetarian but am making these for my fiance. Normally I don't admit my food orientation but in this case, it says a lot about my (lack of) knowledge of good eatin'. As I don't know the first thing about cooking meat - & this is my first time even handling it - there are two instruction components I am unclear on: the first being that I can't tell which is the "fat end". Is it the white-ish part? Also, is the referenced grease something I need to do to the pan, or does this naturally come from the bacon? Please help, anyone! Today is his birthday, & I've got just a couple hours before he gets home.

Thanks sincerely :D
kaptaink_cg (author) in reply to ErinMichelleFeb 13, 2012. 9:10 AM
A vegetarian making these? That must be true love! :)
Yes, the white-ish part is the fat. The grease just naturally comes off from the bacon as it cooks. You don't need to do anything to the pan (except drill/poke holes in the bottom)
ErinMichelle in reply to kaptaink_cgFeb 13, 2012. 10:11 AM
Between my love for him & his love for bacon, there is a whole lot'a' love here! I guessed right about the fat edge & am in the midst of coooking them now. Your instructions were very thorough & helpful. It's just that I can't cook. Not even a grilled cheese. If I could, I'd send you a dozen also! Thanks again.
AromaticDuck says: Feb 13, 2012. 9:03 AM
These look (and taste) lovely! Try painting them a vivid red colour with a liquid food dye and a paintbrush, to make them look even more realistic.
emmaleighcat says: Feb 12, 2012. 6:14 PM
When I made these, the middles of my bacon didn't cook. I was hoping to make them for Valentines day for my honey but now I don't know what to do. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
kaptaink_cg (author) in reply to emmaleighcatFeb 12, 2012. 7:37 PM
Did you use a pan with holes in the bottom, and did you ensure that the fat was draining from the pan? If you did that, then they just need to be cooked longer. If the fat stays in the pan they'll take forever to crisp up and wont cook properly.
numm3r says: Feb 11, 2012. 11:19 AM
Has anyone tried putting a date filled with cheese in the middle? I'm curious how it would look! I think I'll try that version!
