Los ventiladores de techo son artefactos muy útiles, económicos, amistosos con el medio ambiente y que pueden ayudar a soportar un verano agobiante. No sustituyen al aire acondicionado cuando el calor es muy elevado, pero en casi todos los casos mejoran sustancialmente el ambiente. Nunca hice un estudio sistemático, pero estimo que de cada 10 de ellos, por lo menos 7 están desbalanceados, y 2 seriamente.
Un ventilador que se bambolea es una amenaza a la integridad de las personas. Años atrás yo estaba tomando una gaseosa en un bar, cuando cayó a mis pies una pala de lata del ventilador del lugar. Tuve suerte de que no me sacara un ojo.
No es tan difícil balancear un ventilador de techo para que gire sin hamacarse. Solo hay que seguir una serie de pasos, algunos muy simples.
Las herramientas y accesorios a utilizar son pocos: una escalera para llegar hasta el aparato, un destornillador buscapolo, una cinta métrica o en su defecto un piolín, cinta adhesiva, dos o tres monedas o arandelas, una varilla de madera o plástico, y eventualmente una pequeña balanza sensible. Los pasos del 3 en adelante son incrementales, es decir que cualquiera de ellos puede resolver en forma definitiva el problema sin necesidad de seguir probando los siguientes. Tenga en cuenta que si tiene que pasar por todos ellos, tendrá que estar un buen rato parado en la escalera, así que busque una que tenga escalones planos y cómodos.
Ceiling fans are very useful devices, economical, environmentally friendly and can help support an oppressive summer. They do not replace the air conditioning when the heat is very high, but in most cases substantially improve the environment. I never made a systematic study, but I estimate that in 10 of them, at least 7 are unbalanced, and 2 of them seriously.

Una buena idea es numerar las palas, para facilitar el control. Hágalo de manera que luego pueda eliminar las marcas, si la estética es importante. Otra buena idea es procurarse la ayuda de alguien confiable (es decir, no un niño pequeño ni un adolescente distraído) para que apague y encienda el ventilador a pedido de usted, mientras usted está trepado a la escalera.
Limpie la pelusa que por lo general se junta en los bordes y en la parte de arriba de las palas. Suele haber algo de grasitud también, en los ventiladores que están en lugares donde hay comida caliente o humo. Esta grasitud debe desaparecer, por si necesita usar monedas o arandelas para balancear (pasos 6 y 7).
Turn off the fan and wait until it stops completely. Be very careful, a blade turning slowly can deal a heavy blow if you stop it with the head. That's not good when you are working over a ladder, I say this from experience. If you are prudent, you can stop the fan brushing softly with fingertips the bottom of the blades, near the shaft. NEVER FOR THE EDGES!
Make sure the body of the device is not connected to the "live" pole, touching it with the tip of the Look poles and touching the end of the handle of this with the tip of the thumb. If the Look poles shines (not common to happen), you have to turn off the power of the house every time you touch the device (unless you are experienced in working uncut light).
A good idea is to number the blades, to facilitate monitoring. Make it so that it could then removed, if aesthetics is important. Another good idea is to seek help from someone you trust (ie not a toddler or a distracted teenager) to turn off and on the fan at your request, while you're climbing on the ladder.
Clean the lint that usually gathers at the edges and at the top of the blades. Usually some grease too, in the fans who are in places where there are hot foods or smoke. This grease should be gone, if you need to use coins or washers to balance (steps 6 and 7).
