Bamboo Adirondack Chair (Scale Model) by 110_Design
Featured
This is a project based off the real dimensions of a full sized Adirondack chair, only mini sized!

It requires patience, a little sanding and some concentration to put it together, but you get a accurate and beautiful 1:12 scale model fit for the backyard of any social dollhouse owner, or for whatever else you please!

The chair is cut from a flat sheet of bamboo and two chairs can be made from the single sheet. The cut bamboo sheets can be ordered from my showroom at Ponoko.com. Once you receive the cut pieces, you can follow the guide to construct your miniature.

Step 1: Prep

Items:

- 1 Bamboo sheet with pieces laser cut (order from Ponoko.com)
- Fine grit sandpaper (320+)
- Wood glue

Prep:

Carefully remove each piece and lightly sand to provide smooth finish and either place back into respective space in waste sheet or organize each piece paying special attention to guide on following page that shows which pieces belong to which chair.

*optional = Before gluing, but after sanding, you may choose to paint, stain or put a coat of protective polyurethane on the pieces to change the look.

Fantastic project! We'd love for you to add it to the Instructables Ponoko group here: http://www.instructables.com/group/ponoko

Cheers!

I love this, it's great! I build models of just about everything and this is really neat. It would make a great addition to anyone's collection.

I went to the design 110 site that sells the kit and my only issue is the price, 38 bucks for this model is kind of steep when the real thing actually costs less.
Check it out, ace hardware is selling the real one for less!

The pattern sold on the site is for making two chairs. So it is actually $19 each.

I have heard from others that the price is high. I am happy to say that I have reduced the price significantly and hope this welcomes more people to want to try to build this project. Check it out!

If only we all had access to laser cutters. It seems half of the things being posted need a CNC machine, a laser cutter or a milling machine. I looked at this because I thought it was something I could do with my daughter out of scrap pieces. Big let down,

I apologize that you are disappointed about this and other projects on the site. I had made this chair awhile ago and had it laser cut and enjoyed how it came out. I had decided to put in my showroom on another site to sell. After a few sales and no real way to add instructions for them to follow on that site, I thought "what a great idea to have an instructable for people to follow".
Again, sorry to those who expected a simple "at-home" project, I suppose I could add the term "laser cut" to the title to avoid disappointment.
I hope you find/found a great project to do with your daughter on this site!

There are plenty of free plans for adirondack chair online. You could use one of those and scale it down to pint-sized if that suits you. Original plans are here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/how-to-plans/woodworking/2919751

Thanks XTL. I didn't mean to throw all of my rage at this one post. It just seems there is allot of specialty equipment being used on this site. When I first found Instructables it was more things one could do around the house with basic tools you could buy at Orange Depot.

I congratulate you on your subtle marketing strategy ;)

Can I also advertise here? Seems a bit out of line to me.....

AFAIK there's no rule against it - I've seen several doing it. My own opinion is that as long as they provide something to the community then i don't care much.
