Thanks

In the IDF we tie a knot in one end of the lace, and thread it bar style once through. One sharp blade drawn between the eyelets will open the (7 eyelet) boot.
loftycrane says: Feb 7, 2010. 9:27 AM
I don't know what the method is called - but it's a British Army method and the reason for it is that the laces cross underneath and keep the tongue in place. This may not be necessary for shoe's but for boots it helps a lot.
megel in reply to loftycraneSep 27, 2010. 11:06 AM
I was taught to do this too in sea cadets, cept you cldnt see the lace underneath the stair casing. We were told its also a safety measure, since, if your foot is caught in something its easier to cut the boot off than the regular way of lacing shows.

 Ah. Makes sense!
professorred in reply to J@50nFeb 7, 2010. 10:04 PM
From what I heard, it is used because it is easier to cut the boot off if a soldier is injured and needs medical attention quickly.
smile6 in reply to professorredApr 11, 2012. 2:40 PM
wow thats cool i never knew that! =]

British Forces lacing for both shoes and boots is a different pattern which is the same as method 2 on this page http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/shoeshoplacing.htm

I served in the Royal Air Force as did my Father and 2 of my Uncles , one pf my uncles served in the Royal Navy and another Uncle and 3 cousins served in the Army and we were all taught to tie our laces tthe same way.

Xamith says: Feb 7, 2010. 10:13 AM

It's called Sawtooth Lacing on Ian's Shoelace Site, book, iPhone app, and anywhere else you can find it.

DJ Radio in reply to hippyland2Jan 20, 2010. 8:24 PM
You should leave the final stud off.  I do this myself.
J@50n (author) in reply to hippyland2Oct 31, 2009. 10:35 AM
it should work with 7 holes, just repeat a step in the 7th.
SpeakNoEvil says: Feb 3, 2010. 2:05 PM
Great Instructable!  I've recently started re-lacing all my shoes with different patterns, it's really great.

My favorite place for shoelace patterns is Ian's shoelace site.
www.fieggen.com/shoelace/

Starburst, you've done a whole ton of good shoelace Instructables; are you using Ian's site (or some other book/site/etc.) as a source?  If so, you should probably add a link to your Instructables.  After all, credit where credit is due...

Well done!

Most of them i have used Google in the pictures and searched shoe lacing. i get my ideas there.
ItsTheHobbs says: Oct 4, 2009. 5:14 PM
I like your shoe tying instructables. I think this is my favorite, next to the lattice lacing.
