Eyeshadow is one of my favorite things to do with makeup. I love it because it is so versatile and give the eyes a nice contour for added depth and with the right colors can make the color of eyes stand out!

This is a super basic way of doing eyeshadow and can be used on just about any eye shape.

You'll need 3 shadows within the same tonal family (light, medium and dark), an eye shadow brush/applicator and a fluffy blending brush.

Step 1: Placement

For now, let's call the lightest shade #1, the medium shade #2 and the darkest shade #3.

We can split the eyelid into thirds to create a general guide for different shadow placement.

As per the diagram:

Shade #1 should go on the inner corners - this will brighten up the eye.

Shade #2 will go on the middle of the eye lid.

Shade #3 will go on the outer corner of the lid.

Step 2: Lightest Shade

I like to work from the lightest shade to the darkest shade. Lighter colors can be easily corrected and covered by darker colors, it's not so easy the other way around, but do what you're comfortable with.

Although the lightest shade will be predominantly shown in the inner corners of the eyes, I like to brush it all over the eye lid as a sort of "primer" to even out the tones of my natural eye lids.

I'm using a vanilla color and sweeping it across the whole of my eye lid ensuring to get the inner corner of the eyes.

Step 3: Medium Shade

Taking my medium shade, I'm going to use the flat of my brush/applicator and pat it on the center or middle thirds of my lids. If you'd like you can apply this to the outer corner as well. This can help with adding more depth to the darker color that you will apply in the next step.

Step 4: Darkest Shade

To avoid dark eyeshadow falling onto your cheeks, pat the darkest shade into place on the outer thirds of the eye lid. Don't worry if the eyeshadows are not seamless at this point. Just get the shadows. We will blend them out in the next step.

Step 5: Blend

Taking a CLEAN fluffy brush, gently buff out the edges of your shadow. You'll want to take away any harsh lines and blend the colors for a seamless look. Don't be afraid to buff in-between the shadows on the lids too if you see any obvious lines.

Step 6: Add Liner

Add in some eye liner and there you have it. An easy daytime look that can be worn to school, the office or just to run some errands. Have fun and play around with some colors to see what creations you can come up with!
