Introduction: Basic Scarf on a Knitting Loom
This is a very easy scarf to make for beginners using a knitting loom.
Step 1: What You'll Need
You will need a knitting loom, yarn, a loom hook, a yarn needle, and scissors. If you buy a loom kit all of these will be included (except the scissors). I was making this scarf for a child so I used the smallest loom.
Step 2: Start Off by Creating a Slip Knot.
Attach the slip knot to the knob on the side of the loom.
Step 3: Begin Wrapping the Yarn Around the Loom.
You can go either clockwise or counter clockwise, whichever is more comfortable. But, it is important to make sure you start by wrapping from the back to the front and then back again. Continue wrapping until you get all the way around the loom.
Step 4: Push the Yarn You Just Wrapped Down to the Bottom Part of the Loom.
Step 5: Create Another Layer of Yarn.
Wrap the yarn the exact same way (back, front, back) above the first layer.
Step 6: Using the Yarn Hook, Pull the Bottom Layer Over the Top.
Go around and pull each individual loop over the top layer of yarn and over the peg on the loom.
Step 7: Repeat Steps 5 & 6.
Continue adding one layer at a time and pulling the bottom loops over. It should begin to start looking like the images.
Step 8: Once the Scarf Is Long Enough Its Time to Start Taking It Off the Loom.
The scarf should be about the length of the person's arms who is receiving it. Wrap the excess yarn around the loom to measure how much you will need to complete it. Add a couple extra inches and then cut it.
Step 9: Thread Your Needle to the End of the Yarn You Just Cut.
Start at the peg on the left side of your knob and slip the needle through. Pull it over to and through the yarn on the peg directly across. Then go to the peg on the right of the knob and pull the needle through that one and the one directly across. Repeat this alternating sides each time until all the yarn is off the peg. Pull it tight. Then weave the excess either vertically or horizontally through the scarf. Knot the end and hide it on the inside.
Step 10: Now Close Off the Other End.
Undo your slip knot and attach your needle to the end. Try to find each individual loop and weave back and forth horizontally. Knot the end and hide inside. Your scarf is now finished!
