Introduction: Bathroom Cabinet With Concealed Cavity

Picture of Bathroom Cabinet With Concealed Cavity

After watching various films where they have bathroom cabinets that then swing out to reveal a secret "stash" cavity, I was then inspired to build my own!

Step 1:

First of all, I had to decide how deep the cavity was going to be without actually hacking into the wall itself! So about 3cm deep would suffice. This was also going to be a corner cabinet, so slightly more difficult to engineer.

Step 2:

The cavity depth was fine. I then needed to build the shelves etc and have them on a hinge, so the whole arrangement could swing out.

Step 3:

Once the hinging mechanism had been engineered, I then had to bolt on a swinging door, but one which wouldn't interfere with the other part of the cabinet swinging out!

Step 4:

And this is the finished result.

Cool project! It probably wouldn't be too difficult to add a latch connected to a cable that fed to the lower cabinet so it wouldn't accidently open when someone snoopy opens your cabinet the wrong way.

Thanks very much! Yes a discreet lock would be a good bet. Or.....some sort of steel locking mechanism on the inside so that you can't see it at all. But you could slide it open from the outside using a powerful magnet, hehehe.
