This instructable will show you how to make ornaments that are in the likeness of Baymax, one of the stars of Big Hero 6. I made these for my nephews who recently saw the movie and, like the rest of us, fell in love with Baymax. He's the huggable, inflatable, healthcare robot who sees to his patients' needs until he hears the phrase "I am satisfied with my care."

I think you'll be surprised by how simple this Instructable is. I hope that you can give it a try for the Disney and Baymax fans in your life!

Step 1: Supplies

I was inspired to make these ornaments when I saw how similar the wood ovals are to a Baymax pin that I own.

To make these Baymax ornaments, you'll need the following:

Black faux pearl stickers (I found them at Michaels, made by Recollections)
Gloss white paint
Wood ovals (I purchased mine also from Michaels, made by ArtMinds like these)
Black ribbon (3/16th inch thick)
Red ribbon
Gift box

You'll only need two wood ovals for each Baymax ornament. I planned to make one extra ornament in case there were any mistakes along the way.

Also,

Red glitter glue and/or 3D Opaque Glass Writer (Gold)
Tacky/Craft glue and toothpicks or q-tips
Hot glue gun

Step 2: Paint the Wood Ovals

I chose to use Krylon Hobby/Craft Paint (Gloss White). I wanted to have a smooth finish but I imagine other paints will work well too.

Spread out some newspapers and place the wood ovals on them. Follow the directions for applying the paint. In this case, shake the can for 2 minutes and spray the paint when 10-12 inches from the surface. Apply the paint in light coats. After the top surface is covered, apply the paint to cover the sides of the ovals. The paint should dry to the touch in 30 minutes (I checked on mine after 1.5 hrs and they were definitely dry).

You can apply a second coat or use other white paint to touch up the sides or any spots that weren't covered in white. I did apply a second coat and found that it made for a smooth surface.

Step 3: Cut the Ribbon

While the paint is drying, you can use this time to prepare the ribbons. You should have both black and red ribbon. The black ribbon is for the line connecting Baymax's eyes. The red is to create a loop for hanging the ornament. You could really use any color for this ribbon, but I chose one that was red because Baymax's armor is red.

Cut the black ribbon into 1.25 inch pieces. Then, cut it in half lengthwise to have a very thin ribbon, about the width of a toothpick.
Cut the red ribbon into approximately 9 inch pieces.

Step 4: Glue the Ribbon & Faux Black Pearls

Measure 1 inch from both edges of the wood oval and place two faux black pearls in place. Lay out a cut piece of black ribbon in the center of the two ovals. There should be 1.5 inches from the center of one pearl to the center of the other. Cover the back of the piece of ribbon in craft glue. I didn't use the hot glue gun for this because I wanted it to be completely flat and to dry very clear. Also use craft glue to secure the faux black pearls. I used a toothpick to wipe away any small amounts of glue that are visible. The toothpick was also very helpful in slightly adjusting the locations of the pearls and ribbon. Set aside to dry.

Step 5: Personalize

As I've previously mentioned, I made these as gifts for my nephews who both loved seeing Big Hero 6 and especially Baymax. Now that you have Baymax's face on one wood oval, you can personalize the other (which is the back of the ornament).

I used glitter glue and gold 3D Opaque Glass Writer to write my nephews names on the back of the ornaments. I first wrote their names in the red glitter glue, waited for it to dry, then added the gold as a centerline to their names.

Step 6: Create the Loop

In this step you'll create the loop of ribbon for hanging the ornament. I chose to sandwich the ends of the ribbon between the two wooden ovals to ensure it doesn't break off.

Create a loop with the red ribbon and bring together the two ends. Make sure that there aren't any twists in the loop you create. Use a hot glue gun to glue this to the top of the oval (the unpainted side). Try to keep the ribbon as flat to the surface of the wood oval as possible.

Step 7: Glue Two Ovals Together

Cover the unpainted side of the oval with craft glue and squeeze the two ovals together, painted sides facing out of course. You'll notice that there is a gap because of the ribbon inbetween. The red glitter glue will help to cover this up.

Step 8: Add Glitter

Most ornaments have glitter right?! I decided to add some more holiday cheer by covering the edges of the wood oval with more red glitter glue. It's also nice to outline Baymax's face and to cover up the gaps between the ovals.
