Introduction: Beer Bangles

About: A Northern Ireland based maker with a propensity to cause trouble and freshly constructed family.

Like Beer? Wear bangles, bracelets or bits and bobs?

Time for some booze based beautification of your wrists... Or y'know just being a trashy wee bizzum...

This one was definitely a "lets see if this works" plan... The result fits in well with my weird collection of wrist junk and other adornments, including random cords, the net from a wine bottle, some wire bracelets, a smattering of "bar skank beads" (My friends are charming) and part of a girls dress...

*Time to re-evaluate your life Adam, signed: Everyone*

Oh yeah and a bangle I can't remove and don't know how I got on, it simply won't fit back over the bones in my hand...

Anyway dead simple to make and the perfect way to lower the tone of your jewellery collection...

Odd note - Carlsberg isn't by any means my favourite beer, I don't mind it but it's too weak and watery, the cans just so happened to be all over the place last week and gave me the idea...

Step 1: You'll Need...

Not much really...

 - A beer can or any can
 - A knife
 - Scissors
 - A ruler or a straight edge of something solid (I used the slide out writing board on my desk as a clamp by lifting it)
 - Pliers (You could probably manage with your hands anyway but it'd be way easier with them)
 - A distinct disregard for your dignity and sense of class

Step 2: Can Choppin'

Cut the top and bottom off the can roughly, leave plenty of room around the bit you want to be visible.

I just stab near the angled bit at the top and saw with the knife as I cut. (It's weird how often I cut up cans for stuff)

Step 3: More Cutting

Cut the empty cylinder down the seam, I cut out an extra bit to get rid of the seam and pieces of the recycle logo/ingredients...

Next cut the excess along the actual piece you want visible down to a little less than the width of the logo/visible bit either side...

Step 4: Folding

Fold either side of the visible bit up at right angles, using a ruler, a bit of wood or in my case, the sliding writing pad of my desk.

The image shows you better here...

Step 5: More Folding

Fold the side down completely and flatten under something, if one's a little longer make sure it's the one on the outside.

You can see mine crinkled a little, because I was a bit rough with it...

Step 6: Fold in the Edge

On the longer edge lift it up and fold the edge over, so there's not a cut edge on the outside any more.

To do this start the fold with pliers then press it along with your thumb, in the image you can see the plier mark I started it with.

Step 7: Rolling

With a sort of rolling motion press the bracelet around something cylindrical to round it, this might take a few go's if you just try to bend it it'll fold up.

Step 8: Cut the "clasp"

You can see the shape I've cut in the image.

It's simply two notches that make a rudimentary catch. You could glue on pop rivets or make a little hook but I wanted this to be only made from the can.

Step 9: Joining the Ends

To join the ends press on the sides of the end without the notches, until you can slip the other end in.

Put them together on your wrist, unless you have small hands or big cans, in which case you might be able to make a slip on/off one.

Step 10: Finishing the Bracelet

Using pliers bend the corners of the outer side round like the picture before tucking them underneath the bracelet - this way the points of the corners are tucked away and not against your wrist or catching on your clothes...

Step 11: Show Off

Go drinking and make constant allusions to your booze branded bangle!
