But first off I'd like to say that paintball is not a dangerous sport at all, it's just gotten alot of bad publicity because of how it appears if you don't understand the game. It has been statistically compared and proven that playing paintball is safer then staying at home for the day, and in other words that means that more people hurt themselves at home then they would playing paintball.

First you need to answer what kind of paintball are you playing and where. Are you playing with some friends in your neighbors woods, or are you going to an airball field, or maybe a woodsball field. Maybe your just getting into it and haven't heard anything about the sport yet and your not sure what those terms mean exactly. Woodsball, which is probably the best way to begin, is just in the woods somewhere, when you start it should be at an organized field. The best thing you can do is ask the people your going with on what type your playing and learn more about it or ask the field owner to break it down for you and have a little Q & A session with you before you go out.
Next you need to decide what you can afford. If your on a low budget don't expect to go out and buy or rent all the best gear and shoot like a madman. Best thing to do again would to go to your local paintball or all sports store or field and check on the prices of paint. Usually you buy it by the case(2000 or 4 bags) or by the bag(500) which may seem like a lot but most hoppers hold around 200 if you fill them to the top and thats not hard to go through in one round. So be prepared with money and also a nice tip is to fill your hopper halfway the first time and pace yourself to see how far that can get you.
Also where most people have a tough time past the first time going out is the mental part of the game. People who talk about it hurting, and the waiver you have to sign your life off on before you head out and things like that, but again its extremely safe if you follow the rules. When you get hit it does sting a little bit but not that much and it goes away quickly, but if you are worried, alot of fields offer padding for an extra charge or most companies sell it or just where as many layers as you feel you need. And the waiver that alot of people get concerned about when they see it is just because in the world we live in, the sad truth is that if someone gets a little cut or rolls there ankle on your property they can and will sue for all your worth and companies just want to protect themselves to prevent that.
Finally ASK QUESTIONS. If your not sure if you should be doing it then don't and ask a field offical to check to make sure your not doing something wrong, or if you just don't understand something, just ask about it. if you go in a group alot of you might be wondering the same thing.
