Step 4: Begin the Chain

Begin with the starting chain stitch by twisting the thread around the hook and pull it through the loop.

What a nice clear instructable! Thanks so much. I'm looking forward to checking out your other posts and hope you do some more. Would love instructions for simple granny squares???
I'll try to post one soon. I didn't realize that there weren't any to speak of. Lots of slide shows of them, though. Leigh

I learned to knit following an excellent guide I found HERE.

Wow, thanks for replying! Your instructions are great and you've made me very glad that I just discovered this website and such a nice person. Peace and Joy, clare
THANKYOU THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! I've always want to know how to crochet. I got directions off of a different site and I got soooo confused! Thanks!
Happy to have been able to help!! Funny thing is, I learned how to do most of the crafts I do by watching my Nana. She gave me the basis for wanting to teach. So I do. Leigh
I have taken up the crochet club in my school but i am not able to learn it!

Good job.

I'm at a point in my afghan that says to do (10 sc, chain 6, then ssslst. 23 times evenly across by working 2 sc in each row end) The special stitches section shows a ssc and sslst but not the ssslst the instructions show so I'm confused as to which one I'm supposed to be doing. Also where on the row end do I start the sc's

If it's at all possible, could you post the part you're stuck on as will as the special stitch section, so I can analyze it?

This is one of the better instruct ables out there this one is nice and clear when some just don't explain it correctly
I still dont get this part haha.. I just started to crochet its super hard for me right now... Is there any other videos or books i can look at?? IF you have any more ideas let me know.. Thank you!!! I really want to learn how to do this:) Can't wait to learn how.. Thanks again for your help

how do you count the number of double crochet rows mad?

I'm having some trouble understanding the video. Maybe you could add sound or annotations.

all u have to do is get yarn then fold in to two then take the top pinch hold the other part other hand

I'll try to post one soon. I didn't realize that there weren't any to speak of. Lots of slide shows of them, though. Leigh

Hello! Good job! I have rules when it comes to youtube, so if you could possibly show ending a row with pictures? That would mean a lot to me. :)

well it would have been helpful if t videos weren't just green... why does my laptop do that sometimes??? ugh!

hi, I'm new to the site and this was my first instructable. I just loved it! You are a great teacher, I'm planning on using this many many times. Thank you

Can I crochet with a paperclip? (:P) -PKT
I usually make mine out of chop-sticks.
I imagine that if you wanted to have a hook that small, it could be done. If you're a wood worker or wood carver, I would recommend you get some good pictures of crochet hooks and try that instead. Leigh MacD
I did have this old aluminium/brass like tubes, (I see your hook is copper,) about 1/8-1/2 inch diameter. -PKT
I don't know if tubes would work as a crochet hook is generally constructed form a solid piece of metal or wood. (Ask me how I know.... I once cut one down to make it smaller and to customize it for my hands. Leigh MacD
Where can I aquire a hook, of a preferably smaller size? -PKT
You can generally acquire then at places like Walmart & Kmart. You'll have to call before you go because a lot of the Walmarts have removed their yarn and/or fabric departments.

Otherwise you can go to knitting warehouse (link below) or AnniesAttic.com and order them from there. Leigh MacD

http://store.knitting-warehouse.com/notions-hooks.html
Walmarts without a fabric section usually have a small selection of yarns and hooks in the crafts section, where they stock art supplies and the like.
This is my email... If you have any videos books, Anything so i can learn more... britelyte@yahoo.com Thanks!
