I love making bentwood rings and I have recently came up with an idea of how to improve them, here it is.
Step 1: Watch Video
Step 2: Materials and Tools
The materials and tools you'll need are:
- A veneer strip (about 16 cm long)
- A base ring to work on (it is important that the adges are flat).
- A sharp knife
- Sand paper
- Super glue
- Toilet paper
Step 3: Processing the Veneer
Soak the veneer in warm water for 15 minutes.
Wipe it and hold in a circular shape using tape.
Leave to dry.
Step 4: Gluing
First sand on of the veneer's strip edges until it is very thin.
Apply some super glue to the base ring and glue the thin edge of the venner to it.
Glue the rest of the strip in steps leaving the ring to dry between them.
Step 5: Sanding and Shaping
Using the knife, carefully remove exess veneer.
Sand the veneer to make it smoother.
*Be carefull on the metal ring inside.
Step 6: Coating
Put a drop of super glue on the finished ring and quickly wipe with toilet paper. Repeat until there are at least 3 layers of super glue, this will protect the ring.
*Although the ring should be waterproof it should not get wet.
