Let's say that you have just bought a wrong size t-shirt and you need a larger one. Or maybe it's one of your favorite t-shirts but you got some weight and it doesn't fit you anymore (this was my problem!).
Or (last one) you are just tired of an old t-shirt and want to give it a new look and make it prettier!

Well, I am writing this Instructable to give you a very pretty idea to solve these problems! :)

Before I start, I want to make clear that this decoration is made on the back of the t-shirt so the front will remain the same.

Unfortunately I made these 2 t-shirts last summer and I didn't know this great website yet so I have no real step by step pictures of them. But I took some pictures these days and hopefully I can make it clear enough for all of you to understand.

ps: I am not able to sew and this is the first thing I have ever done sewing...so I apologize if it's not perfect!

Step 1: What You Need

T-shirt
lace
piece of fabric
sewing machine or needle and thread
tailor's tape
scissors

Step 2:

First of all you have to cut your t-shirt:
lay it on a table back facing and using a tailor's tape, try to find the middle of your t-shirt's back to trace a line from the top to the bottom.
Cut your t-shirt following the line.

Now that your t-shirt is "open" fold and sew both borders to secure them.

Step 3:

To make a bow, cut a piece of lace 9x16 cm (3.54 x 6.29 inches) then cut a little piece of fabric 3x8 cm (1.18 x 3.14 inches).
Fold the piece of fabric in half and sew the 2 ends together to close it.

"Pinch" the middle of the lace with your fingers and insert it in the piece of fabric.
You can sew them together to make sure that they don't move but it's not necessary.

Your first bow is ready now!

Make at least 5 bows. This depends very much on your t-shirt's length so you may have to add others. I needed 6 bows for my t-shirt.

Step 4:

Now that you have all your bows you must sew them to your t-shirt!

Starting from the top of the t-shirt (near the neckband) place your first bow between the borders that you cut previously. You have to sew the left side of the bow to the left border of the t-shirt and the right side of the bow to the right border.

Do the same for all the other bows, placing them one below the other...

...and that's it! Your t-shirt is ready! What do you think?

Step 5: The Green T-shirt

I made this t-shirt exactly like the first one, except for a little difference: instead of cutting a straight line to divide and open the t-shirt, I cut a long "triangle" (see the picture) to create a different effect. You always have to do this in the middle of the back of the t-shirt.

If you cut it this way, you will have a piece of t-shirt that you can use to close the bows, instead of using other fabric.

Make your bows now, but instead of cutting pieces of laces of the same size, cut one about 12cm long (4.72 inches) and gradually cut the others about 1cm bigger (0.39 inches). My biggest bow is about 20cm long (7.87 inches).
This way your bows will create a "scale": sew the smallest bow at the top of the t-shirt then sew all the others until you reach the bottom with the biggest bow.
