Introduction: Braised Cabbage, Onions and Bacon (PALEO)
This is a paleo recipe. It tastes AMAZING :) This one is on the top of my list of favorite side dishes for sure! Its sooo tasty (and requires little prep!) I made this one up myself!
Green Cabbage $1.25
Yellow Onion $0.70
Total Cost (approx): $4.84 (makes 2-4 servings)
Step 1: Prep
1Green Cabbage (makes about 2 servings)
2 T Olive Oil
3-4 slices of bacon cut into 1/3's.
Quarter and core the cabbage. Cut thinly (set aside). Cut Onion thinly.
Step 2: Cook the Onions
Warm up 2 T of olive oil on the stove in a dutch oven or large pot that has a lid. Cut onion thinly - put into pot and cook about 3 minutes until tender - add salt.
Step 3: Add the Cabbage
Once onions are tender add cabbage and mix together add more salt. Stir it all together and cover.
Cover and cook about 20 minutes (I opened it to stir occasionally). It's done when the cabbage is glassy and tender.
Step 4: Bacon!!
Separately cook the bacon and dry on paper towels. Cut up into desired size pieces and stir into cooked cabbage. Serve and enjoy!
