Introduction: The Magic Bubble Ball
This magical bubble powder ball makes an awesome explosion when put in water, which is incredible to watch.
To make this you will need:
a mold (optional)
food coloring (optional)
canola or vegetable oil
Step 1: Make the Powder
The first thing to do to make the magic powder ball is to make the powder. To do this, measure out 2 tbsp. of baking soda and citric acid and 1 tbsp. of cornstarch. Once you do this, take a cup and put the baking soda in it. Then, put the citric acid in, then the cornstarch. It is very important to put the ingredients in this order because if you don't, the food coloring can start the chemical reaction of the powder, ruining the whole thing.
Step 2: Make the Powder Into a Dough
Now, take food coloring (it doesn't matter what color) and put some dots on the top of the powder. Before you do this, make sure that the top of the powder is all cornstarch. If it is not, the food coloring can start the chemical reaction and ruin the whole thing. Next, mix all of the mixture together. Make sure that you mix every little bit, even the powder that's stuck to the bottom of the cup. When you mix in the food coloring, you will probably see that the food coloring didn't change the color of the mixture at all. But, when you finish the whole thing and put it in water, it will. Now, take 1 tsp. of vegetable or canola oil and mix in little amounts of it at a time into the mixture until you've mixed all of it in. After you do this, you will notice that the oil made little rocks out of the mixture which is ok. Next, take the powder mixture and put all of it onto a plate and take your hands and crush all of the little rocks (it would be smart to use gloves).
Step 3: Turn the Dough Into a Ball
Now, take the dough and put it into a popsicle mold or circular mold. You can also just keep it in a cup, but it looks cooler when it's in the shape of a ball. Next, put your molds with the dough in it into a fridge for 15 minutes. Once the time is up, they're ready to be put into the water. Once this happens, the magic will happen.
Step 4: Reality
Sadly, when I took the dough out of the molds, it crumbled. This was because when I tried to take them out, I smushed them. If you're really careful with these, you'll probably succeed.
Do not digest the ball. When put in water, make sure to not get in eyes.
