Introduction: Star Wars USB Powered Infinity Mirror

Budget Star Wars USB powered Infinity Mirror

We were fascinated by all the projects of infinity mirrors on this website and wanted to do our own. So we made this as a family project. My wife and son went creative :-) On a budget of course.

Time: Easy approx. 2 hours

Cost:

  • Picture Frame 3,99 Euros
  • LED Strip 2,99 Euros
  • Reflective Foil 5,99 Euros

Material:

  • Thick Picture Frame with at least 2 cm space between glass and back
  • LED Strip with battery pack 4.5V, then it is easy to convert to USB cord
  • USB Cord
  • Reflective Foil for windows
  • Mirror for back of the frame or reflective foil as well
  • Foam Rubber white and black

Tools:

  • Printer
  • Scissors
  • Cutting knife
  • Glue
  • Shrink tubing or insulating tape

Step 1: How to Do It:

  • If you want to power the mirror by USB then cut the end connector
  • Connect the red (+) and black (-) cables of the USB cord to the corresponding wires of the battery pack
  • Don't forget the input resistor which is attached to the positive cable of the battery pack
  • Insulate the connection by shrink tubes or insulating tape
  • Print the desired picture and glue it to the foam rubber
  • Let it dry and cut out the picture
  • Use back of the frame as measure and cut the reflective foil to size
  • Remove the protective foil from the reflective foil and apply it on the glass of the picture frame
  • Place another piece of reflective foil to the back of the frame.A white piece of paper behind it is better reflecting
  • Mind the right direction of the foils, the reflective parts have to be facing each other inside the frame
  • Glue the LED strip inside the picture frame
  • Glue the picture to the back reflective foil
  • Assemble all parts
