Want to build a fun, cool and green science project. Then try Hydroponics. Hydroponics is a project that you can build into an ordinary 2 liter soda bottle. All you need are a few inexpensive items and a few seeds and you can build a fully working hydroponic set. This works best with smaller plants, such as radishes which I will be using.
Step 1: What you will need
1. A two liter soda bottle
2. A coffee filter
3. Plant seeds
4. Duct tape
5. Scissors or hobby knife
6. A strip of felt
7. A marker
8. Perlite (You can find this at a gardening store or hardware store.)
Note: I am not responisible for any damages made to you or anything else with any of the materials you use for this project SO BE CAREFUL
Step 2: Cut the Bottle in Half
First to make the container for the plant you will have to cut the bottle open. Put a line with the marker just below where the neck starts to curve. Cut on this line Tip: If you use scissors you have to pinch the bottle where you are going to cut.
Step 3: Prepare the Soda Bottle
Pic 1 - First you have to take off the cap to the bottle
Pic 2 - You have to put the top of the bottle in the bottom of the bottle
Pic 3 - Put tape on the bottle to hold it in place
Pics 4,5 and 6 - Put tape on the top and bottom of the filter, lining them up.
Pics 7,8 and 9 - Cut a slit in the tape about 1 1/2 inches long and insert the felt in the slit. Have a little felt sticking out over the filter.
Step 4: Add the Perlite and Plant the Seeds
Pic 1 - Perlite in the bag.
Pic 2 - Put about 2/3 cup of perlite to the coffee filter.
Plant seeds in the perlite about an inch in.
Pic 3 - Add water by pouring into perlite
Put it into a sunny place and add water when the water in the bottom is low.
In 4 -5 wks. the plant should sprout
