Posting something with only videos and hosting them in such lame sites like metacafe is not wise.

The darn video was erased so what am I supposed to watch?

Anybody have a decent method for exposing the completely transparent plastic of the disc from its data layer? There was a slight incident with splitting the CD a while back and it involved sharp shards of plastic, no way I could have used a saw or knife back then... just want to be safer this time but actually have a clean outcome.

...never mind.

could you replace the CD by a magnet on each side ?

well just put magnets all around the thing

You mean to make the stick float without touching anything? No, the stick would just slide off to the side. The stick stays in place because of friction in between it and the cd.

what if you made it so that the repulsion would be equal on both sides? this is easy to do. just put the magnets on the right side to face the other way. would this work? if any of you can build this, try my idea and tell me if it works.

Balancing out the force isn't that easy even thought it might seem so... try it yourself

what happen if you make a circle with magnet, and put a magnet in the middle? it would not levitate?
Mar 13, 2009. 6:46 PMdodo91 says:
no, it wouldn't. it would fly off. it needs to be on both sides, not just in the middle. trust me. when i was 8 i tried to do it with magnets. i wont work.
Feb 12, 2008. 8:01 PMAar000n3y says:
In theory it could work, but I don't think the forces will equal out properly to make it float in the middle. So instead it would probably just push against a side of the magnet. It really doesn't look that bad to just have a surface off to the side to make it float properly.

But i seen in a garage sale a guy who made a square with magnet, and a magnet in the middle. the magnet in the middle was spinning. there was nothing to hold it`..

I said it is possible, I just don't think it would be too easy to do. You can try it if you want

well i know im stupid.. but i tryed. the magnet in the middle alway get pushed to one side randomly. a way i found to couter the problem, is to make two circle of magnet, one on top and one on bottom. if you make the middle magnet spin, it stay there! (also, it spin for a long time! around 2-3 minutes!)

Mar 13, 2009. 6:41 PMdodo91 says:
there both the same. sure, youd have way more feathers. read this carfully: a POUND of feathers a POUND of lead they both weigh a pound i learned it, which is heavier, a pund of rocks or a pund of feathers.

I learned the riddle as " which is heavier: a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?" The feathers are heavier, because gold is measures in troy pounds. I love that riddle

I have a desk toy that works like this. You can make it spin by rotating the stick.
