Introduction: Burger Log

About: I think my interests tell a lot about me, I'm a multimedia artist which means I work in whatever medium grabs my attention, paint on canvas is very relaxing and acrylic paint can be mixed with paper to make a …

I saw this technique on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the food channel some time ago and have made several versions, This one I'd call a chili dog if that name wasn't already taken

Step 1: Shopping List

as with any of my food guides please feel free to substitute your own favorite seasonings or ground meats

 1lb of ground beef
  1 packet of chili seasoning
 some chopped onion
 Steak sauce (not pictured)
 salt and pepper

Step 2: Make the Meat Log

mix all your ingredients and divide into equal portions, lay a piece of plastic wrap down and place a portion of the meat mix on the wrap, pull 1/3 of the wrap over the meat and make a tight cylinder then wrap the rest of the plastic wrap around the meat being sure to tuck in the ends before you reach the end. place the prepared meat logs in the freezer until frozen

Step 3: 1st Cooking

after the meat logs are firm and frozen take them from the freezer and place in a hard boiling pan or pot of water, cook at a hard simmer for 20minutes, remove from the water and let drain and cool for 10-15 minutes then place them back in the freezer

Step 4: 2nd Cooking

after the meat logs have completely cooled or frozen, remove the plastic wrap ( I usually just run a sharp knife down the length and peel it off) and place (still frozen) on a grill or as in this case a hot frying pan. I'm having peppers and onions on mine so they are in the pan as well.

Step 5: The Roll

While the meat and veggies are cooking its time to prepare the roll. I like hamburgers on hard rolls,I like sausages on hard rolls,  I like hard rolls for breakfast or for sandwiches, I just LIKE hard rolls !  Slice your roll open and remove some of the inside to make room for the cooked meat, peppers and onions, now lay down a couple pieces of cheese

Step 6: Build It

Once the meat log has browned and the veggies are cooked to your liking, place them on your prepared roll and add the condiment or condiments of your choice. I'm using a homemade condiment https://www.instructables.com/id/chipotle-horseradish-saucecondiment/

Step 7: Mangia

I added some frozen hash brown potatoes cooked in a convection toaster oven with a little olive oil and seasoning salt as a side but this sandwich is a hamburger so almost any picnic food will work.

WOW, a feature AND a front page !
