This is a simple project, and I'm sure that you could go a lot more in depth that I have. Women wore bustles during the 1800's in what is called the Victorian era. The purpose (as far as fashion ever has a purpose) was to push out the back of the dress at the waist and give the appearance of prosperity by showing all the draped and ruffled fabric it took to make a bustled dress.

  • an old pillow
  • safety pins
  • a strip of fabric (to tie it around your waist, any scrap will work)
  • needle and thread
