I made this for my friend for her first day at UMD.

This is my first instructable so any helpful tips are appreciated. Just be nice :)

Step 1: What You Need

You will need:

1 CD case
1 pencil
1 ruler
1 X-acto knife or scissors
1 hot glue gun
1 needle and thread
plain white "printer" paper

Step 2: Preparing the CD Case

What you first want to do is take the part of the CD case that holds the CD in place, out of the main case. Don't worry if you break it...you won't need it.

After you've done that, remove any pictures or pamphlets that came with the CD so you just have a clear, empty CD case.

Step 3: Making Pages Pt. 1

now, take a piece of your plain printer paper and fold it in half "hamburger style."

repeat with however many pages you'd like your book to have. (remember, 1 sheet = 2 book pages.)

I used 7 sheets of paper, but you can use more if you like.

Step 4: Making Pages Pt. 2

Now you have to cut the pages to fit the height of the case. So, rotate the papers you just folded so that the folded edge is facing your left, and the open edge is facing the right.

The average height of a CD case is approx 4 1/2 inches. So, using your ruler, mark your pages 4 1/2 inches high, and draw a line straight across. use scissors or your X-acto knife to cut on your line. Repeat for all your folded pages, and set them aside.

Now you should have 7 (or however many you chose to use), 41/2" folded sheets of paper.

Make sure they fit your CD case by placing them inside your case. If they need trimming on the top or the side, do that before moving on to the next step.

Step 5: Making Pages Pt. 3

Now that your pages are trimmed, unfold the pages and lay them one on top of the other.

Using the middle crease as a guide, sew the pages together.

*you can use a pin to "pre-poke" your holes in the paper since the thickness makes it kinda hard to sew.

**I outlined the final product of the sewing in purple.

Step 6: Making Pages Pt. 4

Now, fold the pages back in half and have the "spine" of your booklet facing you. Using your glue gun, place some glue on the spine of the booklet, and attach it to the inside spine of the CD case.

Step 7: Finished!!

YAY! You're done! Now you can decorate it any way you want! I copied the UMD mascot and drew it on a blank sheet of paper, and inserted it into the front of the CD case.

These make great gifts, especially if you have a lot of CD cases lying around :)
