NOTE: This is a "home remedy"... Use at your own discretion and risk.

IF YOUR SORE THROAT SYMPTOMS GET WORSE, SEE A DOCTOR! (I never once will EVER suggest that you don't). Our bodies can't always fight off all infections (obviously), so if you need antibiotics then GET THEM.

I am a supporter of BOTH natural and medicinal treatments (and, yes, I vaccinated ALL of my kids, lol). I believe in taking antibiotics for serious infections like strep. With that said, I am providing this instructable as a natural way for anyone who is interested in it.

This remedy also is beneficial for ANY bacterial or viral infection that can manifest itself in the throat/mouth. BONUS! :)

NOTE: Each ingredient in this concoction has MANY more healing effects then just this one (and I've listed a lot of those out in the last few steps of this instructable). So be sure to stick around to see those!

Step 1: The Miracle Concoction...

INGREDIENTS:

*3 cloves fresh garlic or 3 teaspoons minced garlic

*1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

*Raw or pure honey to taste

ADDITIONAL INGREDIENT:

*Apple Cider Vinegar

DIRECTIONS:

1. Peel and crush your fresh garlic cloves (either with a mortar and pestle or a hand held garlic mincer) and put them in a small bowl or simply put your pre-minced, jarred garlic in a small bowl.

2. Mix in a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper. (Don't worry about it being too spicy, the honey really dulls it down!)

3. Mix in your honey to taste.

THE REMEDY:

Simply eat 1/2 teaspoon of this concoction every 30 minutes. Make more of this recipe as needed.

NOTE: A large amount of garlic can potentially upset your stomach when eaten this regularly (especially if you're not used to eating it), so make sure it's only1/2 teaspoon (no less then 1/4 teaspoon). You can reduce the frequency of how often you take it in a day, but make sure it's at least with every meal and snack. If you have an aggressive level of infection, the reduction of consumption could result in it only working partially, so just take that into consideration.

My kids (ages 5-10 at the time) took this, too, and at the same amounts as listed here. This just goes to show that the flavor is definitely NOT too intense and it's safe for all ages!

ADDING THE BIG GUNS:

In addition to eating this concoction every 30 minutes--if you really want to kick this infection to the curb in a hurry--gargle apple cider vinegar 3 times per day, too.

Step 2: Benefits of Garlic

THANKS SO MUCH! We won! LOVE TO YOU ALL! <3 <3 <3

Strep throat is a bacterial infection of throat, nasal
cavity and its surrounding regions. The bacterium causes inflammation which
results in breathing difficulties. Antibiotics are used to treat strep throat.
Apart from the medicinal treatment, strep throat can also be treated with home
remedies. There are few home remedies for the strep throat that can help you.
These home remedies include: Take plenty
of rest, Increase the intake of fluids, Gargle with warm water can soothe the
throat irritation, Chamomile tea is an effect pain reliever. Warm beverages can
be administered to soothe sore throat, Use of honey garlic and lemon can be
effective, Herbal tea and soups are also effective against the sore throat as
well, Ingredients like garlic onion, black pepper and cloves in your soups are
effective and Take vitamin C for a week or two, whenever the weather is
changing.

Reference: www.healthunits.com/ent/is-strep-throat-contagious

Did you know Vit D is the most important vitamin (more so than Vit C) for immunity and healing? It's fun to learn new things from one another :) Here's just one sample resource: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/01/04/why-this-vitamin-is-better-than-any-vaccine-and-improves-your-immune-system-by-35-times.aspx

Thanks for commenting and sharing your wisdom! Many blessings :)

Hello,

Really a great post,

Thanks for sharing this article with us. I also read a valuable article on sore throat

http://thelifesquare.com/how-to-get-rid-of-a-sore-throat-quickly-857832/

Thanks so much for the kind words! Many blessings :)

CONGRATULATIONS,!! I voted for you and so happy you got the top prize.

Great job! Jewels

Aww thank you, love! :)

congratulations :)

Thank you so much!

congratulations :)

Thank you for this remedy, I'm going to try it. For how long should I take it? A day? A week? Until the soreness is gone?

How's it going? Did this remedy help you?

Thank you for asking :) It helped! I couldn't find cayenne pepper so put hot paprika instead. And I took it only 3 times a day, but it still helps. Thank you again for sharing the recipe :)

YAY! Glad to hear :)

I would take it for at least a week. Maybe even 10 days (like a normal antibiotic). It's basically helping up your immune system so it can naturally fight off the infection (just like antibiotics would), so you can work with your body to figure out the best length of time, etc, to take it. Definitely take it at least until the symptoms are gone. It also depends upon if you know for sure you have strep, or if it's just a sore throat (as this would aid in determining how long or short to take it). Thanks for visiting! Hope this helps :)

Thank you! :)

Hi, is there anything that can be exchanged for the cayenne as I am highly sensitive to any of the chilli family?

Carol

You can omit it, but I can't guarantee the success of this remedy solely on the other ingredients as cayenne is one of the "big guns" to give the infection a run for it's money (because of the naturally occurring capsicum in it). You COULD try buying Capsicum supplements (look for as natural as possible) and do one of two things: 1) swallow them by mouth as directed on the bottle IN ADDITION to taking this concoction, or 2) Find a chewable version and grind one up in a blender, food processor, or coffee grinder and add that powder to your concoction here. I'm not sure about the flavor or whatnot it would bring as I haven't tried this myself. I'm sorry I don't have more suggestions, but I hope this is helpful to you! :) Thanks for commenting and visiting!

PS, here's a link to a website to show you what to look for if you go with the supplement route (and then you can have them on hand when needed again later for any other reason): https://www.naturessunshine.com/us/product/capsicu...

I'm NOT affiliated with them or anything, that's just the first thing that popped up when I Googled it :)

I've sen this, it's pretty amazig!!!!

yes it is ;) Thanks for commenting and visiting!

I understand what you're trying to do, but I think you should re edit the remedy as a "soothing help to a sore throat."

The reason i say this is if you have a streptococcal infection and you know this, it is because a doc has said so. there is no cure for strep throat other than Antibiotics.

The best remedy to take whilst on antibiotics is good live bacteria yogurt not garlic.

If you have a sore throat, and it gets worse then see a doctor.

A throat infection could be fatal if left treated with garlic.

I applaud your efforts to submit a positive Instructable, but a remedy made at home for infections as serious as this is just promoting trouble for you.

Simon

I agree! That's why this remedy is NOT saying "just take some garlic." Garlic alone doesn't have nearly the medicinal benefits as cayenne pepper (which the American Association of Cancer Research claimed to KILL prostate cancer cells) and apple cider vinegar and honey. That's why they're all combined for their various reasons. Also, antibiotics simply kill bacteria (which is the same thing your body does naturally)...and this remedy helps to up your immunity to do just that. Thanks for commenting and visiting :) And, I said to PLEASE get antibiotics in the beginning of this instructable for a strep infection (if you KNOW it's strep)!

You keep stating the American Association of Cancer Research claimed cayenne pepper kills prostate cancer cells. I searched their site and found no such study or article. Please provide the link to this study on their site.

I followed her link, and there is such an article.

HOWEVER

the American Association of Cancer Research is a SCAM organization

see: https://smartasset.com/insights/the-50-worst-charities-in-america-how-to-keep-from-being-scammed

I don't like getting into things like this . But I think that you miss read . Her point is to help with streptococcal soothing the discomfort . She did not say not to take antibiotics. My neighbor has tried this recipe and said . He feels much better than just being on antibiotics. SHARE LOVE not criticism. BIG HUG eveyone

So glad to hear that testimony! Thanks for sharing it :) You are an awesome encourager...it's very refreshing.

I wish to add my thanks for providing a soothing relief formula for strep or any other sore throat problem. Antibiotics or not, a sore throat still hurts and anything that helps that, has my vote. I believe doctors have their place in our health care, but I also believe home remedies have a place. From the beginning of time, natural cures were used before modern medicine ever came into play. They have their merits. I am sincerely grateful for modern medicine, but I also believe that as our medical costs soar and insurance rates skyrocket, these natural cures may become an important option in our health care. I, for one, am learning all I can about taking care of myself just in case that time comes. My ancestors did it, and I may have to also. Again, thank you sincerely for sharing this home remedy..

That was so sweet, thank you for your kindness! I agree with you about everything you wrote & i think some people forget that we as a human race used natural remedies before medicine came (like we have today). Before our current-day medicine, natural remedies were considered medicine. "Let thy food be thy medicine." Great points you made! Thanks for commenting and visiting :)
Awesome concoction... Hope it helps many many people in the future. If you don't like it, don't use it. Pretty simple

Thanks so much for your kind words :) And thanks for visiting!

Well done! Sometimes we can't see the forest through the trees. I love honey ,I drink a warm cup of water and honey every morning and night. I will keep this in my arsenal of home health. Thank you! Jewels

Thanks for the kind words <3

Just a thumbs up for this Remedy. It has helped to soothe my sore throat since I started taking it yesterday.

what a wonderful testimony! thanks for commenting and sharing it :) many blessings

Before anyone decides to place all their faith in a folk remedy over antibiotics, please review the National Institutes of Health's Web site description of Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis. https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/0...

This is one of many serious complications of a strep infection which can become fatal. I developed a strep infection in the fall of my 3rd grade school year. It did not present a sore throat. Instead my urine was the color of Coca Cola. For months I was confined to bed rest and a low protein high carb diet because nobody could figure out why my kidneys were bleeding. After about 6 months, our family doctor tested me for strep because everybody else in my family kept coming down with strep throat and he thought I might be a "carrier."

It turned out he was right and the strep bacteria were destroying my kidneys. I was placed on the standard course of Antibiotics which killed the infection. Since then, my kidneys have healed better than the doctors originally expected.

Forgive me if I trust medical science more than your faith.

Lastly, I'm actually very sorry you went through what you did. That's extremely scary and traumatic and it's a great example of why you need to seek medical help IMMEDIATELY (as written over and over and over by me) if anything progresses. Thanks for sharing your experience as it brings to light the dangers that are present with any kind of illness (esp strep).

Unfortunately, my experience isn't the worst of possible Strep complications. Strep A is one of the "flesh eating bacteria." As noted by other people, Strep infections can lead to Rheumatic Fever and permanent damage to many of your internal organs. The point I'm trying to make is that Strep is too serious to pass over with a fluff home remedy. If you think you may have Strep, you NEED to see a doctor!

I'm going to be as nice as possible when I say this is ridiculous. There is no scientifically valid information in here and if someone has strep throat the ONLY way to get over it, other than months of suffering and spreading germs and making other people sick, is antibiotics. When I was younger I suffered horribly from intractable strep. It's not something to play with. It's a bacteria. Here's a good RELIABLE source of information for you - https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000639.htm Get off the anti-vaccination train and don't spread this kind of unsubstantiated nonsense. Please.

Hi Kaijura,
Instructables has a policy of being constructive. When you read any homeopathic suggestions, you should ALWAYS use common sense and READ.
The nih is NOT a reliable source, but it is a good source when you use the information in context along with deeper research. You also must realize how much the over prescribing of antibiotics has caused severe problems in our health care practices today. It is a highly debated topic when you read the medical journals as of late.
Also please note that the OP did not suggest anti-vaccination. :)

This treatment does work, and so do many others. If you can't be diligent about it and willing to learn the signs of what to look out for, then stick to hospitals and doctors. If you are willing to take responsibility for your health then you probably read this instructable.

Why am I commenting? Because my wife of 27 years and over 3 dozen doctors and specialists still has the same problems with no answers. And rounds of antibiotics and "traditional" medical treatments have had a net zero to negative affect. I have read over 1000 blogs from around the world of women who suffer the same problems. Which is what prompted my in depth study of medicine, history, and solutions to good health, and healthy living.

Forgot to add for all....
Take a probiotic especially after antibiotics. The antibiotics get rid of bacteria, and that would include your good digestive bacteria, so replenish the good stuff and stay healthy.

excellent tip about the probiotic! Thanks for commenting and visiting :)

Yay! Finally something you and I (and the medical profession) can agree on! Gut bacteria play a major role in the human immune system. It is very important to restore their balance after a course of antibiotics.

That's an incredible testimony that you shared about your wife. Boy, do I hope you find healing for her soon! I'm so sorry you both have had no answers yet, I know that must tough, and emotionally and physically draining. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

thanks for commenting and visiting :)

This is a highly irresponsible thing to publish!
There is, literally, no way this will "cure" strep throat!
CHANGE THE TITLE!

lol if you refresh your page it has been changed. Note the featured comment too. The email title doesn't change when I changed the title here. Thanks for visiting :)

Most of Instructables uses science. Let's stick with science-based treatments, rather than 'a friend used this.' Your statements are not substantiated by scientific study.
Everyone eventually recovers from Strep Throat, which is why others have already pointed it out. The main reason we prescribe antibiotics to treat it are to prevent the sequelae of the streptococcal infection. You are spreading misinformation that could lead to the poor health of others that follow your advice.

please note the featured comment and title. Thanks for your constructive criticism :)
