Step 1: Ingredients & Tools
Ingredients:
1 Sara Lee Pound Cake
2 containers fresh raspberries
2 Tbsp lemon juice
4 Tbsp confectioners sugar
1 Zig Zag Knife a.k.a. crinkle cutter or you can use a regular knife for straight edge fries
Strainer
Bowl
Baking Sheet
Fry liner paper
Step 2: Cut cake into Crinkle Fries
First, slice the ends of each side of the pound cake and save them for later or discard. Next, use a zig zag knife to cut the pound cake lengthwise into regular size pieces. Lastly, use the zig zag knife to cut the poundcake vertically into strips resembling fries. Leave the brown part on each end of the fries for an added realistic effect.
Step 3: Make the Raspberry Ketchup
To make the raspberry ketchup, rinse the raspberries under cold water. Next, place them in the blender with a few tablespoons of lemon juice. Puree the raspberries until they are broken up and smooth. Next, add two tablsespoons at a time of confectioners sugar. Puree the raspberry mixutre again. Repeat.
Place the mixture into a strainer over a bowl. Use a spatula and press the puree down into the strainer until only the seeds remain. Pour the Raspberry Ketchup into a ketchup bottle and place some into a small dipping bowl.
Step 4: Broil Fries
Pre-heat broiler. Place the cake fries on a baking sheet. Place fries under the broil for 10-15 sec on each side or until lightly browned. Place the light on in the oven so you can watch them brown.
*** Do not leave fries unattended or they will burn***
Step 5: Happiness!
Place cake fries in a fry cone or basket with liner. Pour raspberry ketchup into a bottle and place some on the side for dipping.
Serve immedietly. if they sit out for too long, they may dry out.
Enjoy!
My issue was that they break quite easily once broiled and found that while pound cake is a natural choice here for this use, I felt it was missing something; but whipped cream doesn't exactly go with french fries.
All in all, it was fun to do; and yes, they burn very quickly if you don't watch them closely. Literally, it only took 30 seconds on the top rack with the flame on high...
Thanks for the 'ible!
Amazing.
