Introduction: Campfire Cooker

Step 1: Find the Pot

Finding the pot is the most important step of all. I used a 1940's U.S. Army 20 gallon pot.

Step 2: Build Your Fire Pit

Take 8 cinderblocks and level them with a shovel and a 4ft builders level. Arrange the blocks in a half circle with the back half towards the predominate wind. Cut 3 pieces of strong angle iron accordingly.

Step 3: Build Your Basket

Find the grate out of an old grill that fits down inside your pot. Cut and wire together 1/4" or 1/2" hardware cloth in a circle around the grate. Make sure your basket is strong enough to lift out several pounds of boiled food. Find something to cover the top of the cooker to hold in as much heat as possible.

Step 4: Build a Fire and Cook

Fill your pot with 8 to 10 gallons of water. Start a fire underneath it and bring water to a boil. Add your food and pull your basket of cooked food out when it is done.

Step 5: Recipie for Crab & Shrimp Boil

Bring water to boil. Add 2 cups of salt and 1/2 cup cracked black peppercorn. Add 4 to 6 Zaterans crab boil bags.
Add baby potatoes(usually 4 per person)
Start timer and cook 7 minutes
Add corn on the cob, halved
Start timer and cook another 7 minutes
Add the Alaskan King crablegs

Add shrimp and craw dads

Shovel the coals out from under the pot and let water set for 15 minutes. Serve and Eat!
