Since I used scrap wood and the pieces were small I decided that the main holder section had to be made out three pieces. Because the votive holders can get hot the openings are 1/8" larger. In the CAD modelling process I saw that 3/4" thick stock would be overpowering so all of the material was reduced 5/8" thick.
1. On my table saw I cut 6 identical pieces of poplar.
2. I cut a strip of vermillion for the dividing accent pieces.
3. With the router in my router table I cut slots to use "mini" biscuits for assembly of the 3 top sections and the accent strips and glued that sub-assembly.
4. With my router and a template I cut the three openings for the votive holders.
5. I cut the vermillion strip for the legs and cut the strip for the 8 legs.
6. I cut the angle on the top of the legs with my router in the router table.
7. I cut the mortises in the 8 legs and 2 tops, again on my router table.
8. I cut the angles on the perimeter of the 2 tops with my router.
9. After a dry fit I sanded all the pieces and relieved all of the sharp edges.
10. I taped off all glue surface and applied the four coats of lacquer to all the pieces.
11. After the hard a chance to harden, I cut the channel in the bottom the top and the vermillion strip to fit across the bottom of the 2 tops.
11. I applied lacquer to the bottom vermillion strips.
12. After the lacquer had a chance to dry I signed the bottom strip and applied another coat of lacquer.
13. I glued everything together polished everything, added the votive holders. and photographed them.
14. Lastly, I gave them away as gifts for Christmas in 2010!
For now, though, I would edit those instructions into the text of your Instructable.
I'll do better next time!
