The expression "taser" keeps popping up and anybody using it should know the difference between a stun gun an a taser
pyrofirelighter in reply to hingeApr 20, 2009. 9:27 AM
so what is the difference?
hinge in reply to pyrofirelighterApr 21, 2009. 7:51 PM
Well, there's only one thing connecting taser and a stun gun.High voltage.Otherwise it's difficult to find anything which they share. One fires darts with taser, which need to hit the target to have any effect, any taser is easily 3 times more expensive than any stun gun and much more expensive to "maintain".A stun gun is a device which you have to press against a target to get "the spark"going. So we're talking distance and easiness to use. It's difficult to think about homebrewed Kodak "shockers" in terms of a stungun.
Gh{O}sT in reply to hingeApr 25, 2009. 5:09 PM
taser gets more searchers :P

For those of us (like myself) with a very basic understanding of electronics and related items (including capacitors) what happens to the victim?
How much does it hurt, does it leave any lasting damage (I read shockhappy's comment about "taser tattoos"), are you completely positive this will not kill a person, etc. I don't want to be beaten to a pulp because I tased someone into last year.
sadunpererarules in reply to El ManoDec 19, 2008. 2:02 AM
leaves two small burn marks where the two pieces short through you. but nothing serious. Arm might be sore for 15 minutes. but it has around 500V of shock, according to mine anyway. but Volts dont Kill you, amps do. like a car battery has 12 V but over 6 Amps, and real tazers have like 900000000000000V but a small number of amps. so no need to be scared. its really cool once u make it. but make the one with the camera. looks hardcore.
mr. clean in reply to sadunpererarulesMar 16, 2009. 5:54 PM
the worst damage from this is two burns and a your arm, no one has ever needed CPR or been killed it's not 500volts it's 300volts at about 18milli amps.
bombmaker2 in reply to sadunpererarulesDec 27, 2008. 7:42 PM
dont car batterys have like 300-400 amps?
limpach says: Sep 21, 2008. 7:24 PM
Oh that is brilliant! A device designed to shock with an electric current, so you house it in an altoids tin.

oh come on dude when i first made my tazer i shocked myself 5 different times and it didnt hurt too much. if you want a heart attack go swimming in gas then taze yourself.=)
DrWeird117 in reply to carscanpooAug 30, 2008. 7:19 PM
THAT'S spontaneous combustion!
Father Christmas in reply to carscanpooJul 8, 2008. 5:14 PM
it depends on how you touch it. i mad eone while back and zapped my forearm. nothin really. but if you touch the two contacts with one finger each from each hand, then currect travels through the chest, and any organs that might be there.
shockhappy (author) in reply to Father ChristmasAug 20, 2008. 12:49 PM
still wont kill u, tried it!! w/ my pot-head friends it wont kill you, its the amps, it doesnt have enough
Father Christmas in reply to shockhappyAug 24, 2008. 3:22 PM
you also have to take into account any cardio-vascular problems such as those that might be prevalent in the elderly or ill
mr. clean in reply to Father ChristmasMar 16, 2009. 5:55 PM
yes don't shock any one with heart problems just to be safe

radio shack, for like 3 dollars for a tiny switch, or you can steal it from there its not too hard just slip it in ur pocket when no ones looking, its too easy

does anyone know the specifications of that capacitor???
shockhappy (author) in reply to The_VinninatorAug 20, 2008. 12:48 PM
80vlts 330mf about 15 amps if you want a better capacitor, the "flash+" cameras have: 120volts, 330mf, and i dont kn0w the amps
Audiosyncratic says: Aug 9, 2008. 11:47 AM
If you get rid of the capacitor does it make a continuous charge of the same voltage??
shockhappy (author) in reply to AudiosyncraticAug 20, 2008. 12:45 PM
nope, its a whimpy 1 some dont even feel it
mettaurlover says: Mar 30, 2008. 7:24 PM
use a 9-volt adaptor to make a good holder... and make it more powerful.
shockhappy (author) in reply to mettaurloverApr 5, 2008. 10:14 PM
a 9 volt battery breaks the circuit board, yea I've tried it, 4 AA batteries do the same.
computer_freak_8 in reply to shockhappyAug 16, 2008. 7:53 AM
You have bad luck! I used to use 4 AA batteries in a holder - and it worked (faster, too). Then I went to using a 9V battery - that charged really fast! By the way, I did kill one of the three circuit boards when I did something I figured would... I took the capacitor leads to the board's battery terminals. (It wouldn't charge on that board after that...)
shockhappy (author) in reply to computer_freak_8Aug 20, 2008. 12:42 PM
you do kill a lot of those things experimenting, but its worth info u get from it
OmegaClone says: Jul 31, 2008. 4:52 PM
great work thanks 4 the info,i didnt realize it would have so much punch init.thanks again this is really good.
BloodRoger says: Apr 22, 2008. 8:38 PM
the possibility of this actually killing some one is so low the chance of that happening is some where around 1 to 1000 beside the actual police tazers and electrified fences are 10time stronger than this and the reports of deaths from those thing is extreamly low

More instructions are need especially due to the hazards in the step(s) or the product(s) of this instructable. For your legal safety and the safety of others please include the following: 1) A clear warning of the high voltage hazard 2) A clear warning of the medical dangers Note: I believe that it is extremely dangerous for you to leave the capacitor in the circuit. The flash capacitor are made to rapidly release their charge and the amperage they can output + their voltage rating have a extremely high possibility of causing heart failure as well as many other harms. The device will still produce quite a shock if used without the capacitor.
shockhappy (author) in reply to nf119Feb 11, 2008. 4:46 PM
haha what r u like a 90 yearold guy who lived a goddamn sheltered life haha its harmless i mustave shoched myself 100 times i know all bout capacitors yea i may be 16 but i know all bout that crap, its so weak it woulnt stop a pacemaker if u tazed it dead-on iight so relax you stinkin old sh.it.
solidacid in reply to shockhappyApr 22, 2008. 6:37 AM
actually AC is way more dangerous than DC, thats why they use it for the electric chair
nf119 in reply to shockhappyFeb 11, 2008. 6:28 PM
One, I am only a year older than you. Two:

Hand to hand resistance is around 17 kohm (extremely dry skin, flesh has lower resistance). Flash capacitors are rated for 330 volts but charge up to around 300 volts.

Ohm's Law state V = I * R which rearranges to I = V / R. Thus I = 300 / 17000 = .0176 amps. Thats 17.6 mA. Its takes 30 mA across the heart to kill. These calculation does not take in account of lower resistance of moist skin and tissues inside the body.

Just think 120 V AC (which is safer than DC) can kill. And most outlets only let through a couple of amps. Photoflash capacitors are design to pulse out much lager currents at ~300 V DC. They are more dangerous than AC Outlets.

Three, I was only trying to help you.
bombmaker2 in reply to nf119Dec 27, 2008. 7:48 PM
no clue what all that means but only 7ma can kill across the heart
MrMystery96 in reply to nf119Mar 1, 2008. 5:39 PM
i agree. this taser idea puts out some serious shocks. but i can also see how shockhappy sees it. the shocks hurt but in most cases don't or won't cause damage or death. but if i had to choose whos side im on its definately nf119.
shockhappy (author) in reply to nf119Feb 14, 2008. 4:43 PM
haha i havent killed any one yet,i dont worry bout that shyt, takes the fun out of it... the tazers i make leave marks they hurt like hell, my friend agreed to be held down while we "tazer tattooed" him, pretty crazy... hairs stopped growing within a 2cm radius of the tazered area, u made a pretty cool intsructable yourself, i felt like pissin someone off at the time haha dont take it personally iight bud?
Derin in reply to shockhappyMar 30, 2008. 7:29 AM
try it on me:)u cant im faar away
BloodRoger says: Apr 2, 2008. 8:12 PM
I actually think this is a pretty nice one its allot less noticeable than some iv seen *hint if you get rid of the cap then solder the screws to that u could get a continuous charge
shockhappy (author) in reply to BloodRogerApr 5, 2008. 10:13 PM
finally someone that sees it my way, thats the only reason i made it, so that its somewhat unnoticeable if you hold it right. i tried making one like that, with a continuous charge, u forget about it and u end up gettin' urself once and a while
johndoe5595 says: Mar 21, 2008. 11:31 AM
it seems kinda tough to make and u need to take better pics i can barely see the outline of the battery. post an easier one to make that is in a glasses case, that would be cool.
uguy says: Feb 11, 2008. 4:44 PM
You need better pictures to maake this a decent Instructable, although this subject has been done numerous time (too many times).
shockhappy (author) in reply to uguyFeb 11, 2008. 4:50 PM
not in a candy box tho, yea im lazy too lazy to make a decent instructable
MrMystery96 in reply to shockhappyMar 1, 2008. 5:44 PM
dude you really should put some better pics in. seriously. but what i really want to ask is : since im putting mine in a round box and i don't have a lot of things to work with it would be just my luck that some wires came loose. so i need to figure out where they go. i have built my own cnc machine. wrote quite a few programs for it and got first at the science fair with it. im also working on a van de graf generator and yet i can't figure out where two wires go.
shockhappy (author) in reply to MrMystery96Mar 3, 2008. 9:41 AM
ya theres about 6 wires if ur lukin 4 tha wires that connect to the screws and shock yu, u can find them by touching a peice of wire curved into a "u" shape, charge the circuit board(i know , its dangerous but wear mitts or sumptin..) and find the "lead dots" near the flash bulb in the circuit board (u can take out the flash bulb but be careful! u cud ruin ur taser i messed up like 3 circuit boards before i got it right ) with the wire touch 2 lead dots with 1 dot for each side keeep doing this till u see a spark then sodder seperate wires to each of the lead dots theyll conect to each screw ill update the instuctable sooner or later when i have time
GorillazMiko says: Feb 12, 2008. 3:06 PM
You should put more stuff into this Instructable. Better pictures, more detail. The usual. I'm not saying it's terrible, but it should have more work put into it.
