Introduction: Candy Corn Hat

About: Hey there! I like to sew and craft and adventure and so many other things I could bore you to tears. But I won't. Sooo well, have a good day :)

Everybody likes candy corn! Now you can make a Candy Corn Hat! This is pretty easy to make, and doesn't take very long at all!

Step 1: Materials

You Will Need:
  • ¼ Yard White Fleece
  • ¼ Yard Orange Fleece
  • ¼ Yard Yellow Fleece
  • Black Fleece Scraps
  • Paper
  • Measuring Tape (Sewing kind)
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Marker
  • Pen/Pencil
  • Pins
  • Sewing Machine (Makes it a lot easier and faster)

Step 2: Cut Out the Hat

For the top, you will be making four triangle shaped pieces out of white and orange.   Cut out a triangle piece of paper and then cut it in half, you'll have to make it a little longer on the ends so that it will over lap for seam allowance.
Cut four tops on white and the middle piece on orange.

For the brim, I cut about a 2 ½ inch wide band on a fold. Since my head is 22 inches around, I cut 11 inches on the fold. Cut two of Yellow.

The eyes are just black circles with a diameter of about an inch.

Step 3: Sewing the Triangles Together

Put the right sides together of the white and orange. You'll be sewing these along the top of the orange and the bottom of the white. If you cut them out right they should have lined up so it's like a tall triangle.

Step 4: Sewing the Triangles Together

Now, sew two of the triangle pieces together, make sure that the right sides are together and that the seams match up.
Sew two more pieces together, so that you have two halves of a hat.

Put the halves of the hat together, so that one is inside the other. Pin at the top of the halves, where the two seam lines meet.  Now sew around the two halves. Make sure the right sides of the fabric are together and that the white and orange seam lines match up.

Your hat is forming!

Step 5: Sewing Brim

Take your two brim pieces and put them right sides together, so that you can sew longways on one side. Sew along one side all the way down the brim.

Turn the brim right side out, you may have to iron it a little to keep it nice and flat.

Step 6: Sewing on the Mouth

Mark a smile shape in the middle of your brim, so that when the seam is on the bottom, the smile is not up-side-down.

I made the stitching a little different. I moved it to a zigzag stitch and made it so that it was tight enough to look like a steady line of stitching. Try it on a piece of scrap cloth first so that you know you have it right.

Remember to only sew through one layer of the brim. And remember to change the thread to black!

Step 7: Attaching the Brim

Sew the brim at pieces so that it is like a loop. Make sure the smile is on the right side.

Turn the top upside down and put the brim around the edge of the cloth, make sure that the smile is facing the orange, and that the seam is at the back with the other seam.

Sew along the edge, try to make sure the seams are sewn open, but it isn't a big deal.

Turn your hat right side out. Put it on and make sure it fits. This is the final shape of your hat.

Step 8: Attaching the Eyes

Place the eyes on the hat where the yellow meets the orange. You can adjust them to make a different look.

Sew around the edges of the eyes. Go slow! It will make it a lot easier and look a lot better.

Step 9: Wear!

Have fun wearing your candy corn hat! If you make one, I would love to see pictures!
