Step 1: Supplies

Length-Width-Height
2 5.5 by 5.5 by 1.25 pieces of wood
1 3.5 by 3.5 by 1.25 piece of wood
2 3.5 by 1.25 by 3/4 pieces of wood
1 8 by 1.25 by 3/4 piece of wood
1 1.25 by 3/4 by 3/4 piece of wood

2 1.25 inch screws
2 3 inch screws
4 1.5 inch screws
2 2 inch screws
1 mason jar with top
A drill and driver
A hammer
A nail set tool (optional but very helpful)

Step 2:

I don't have step by step pictures but I'll try my best to explain it as clearly as possible. So first you would screw the 3.5 by 3.5 piece of wood in the center of one of the 5.5 by 5.5 using the 2 inch screws (put 1 in the top left and 1 in the bottom right).
Next use the 2-3.5 by 1.25 and place one at each side of the 3.5 by 3.5 so there is a space in the middle (use the 1.5 inch screws 2 in each and pre-drill).
Then you have to drill a 1 to 1.25 inch hole in the middle of the final 5.5 by 5.5. After that center the 5.5 by 5.5 and put use the 3 inch screws (1 in the top right and 1 in the bottom left).
Next put the metal top from the mason jar in the center of the top 5.5 by 5.5 and put the finish nails in distributed evenly (this is where the nail set tool helps a lot)

Step 3:

Finally measure 3 inches in on the 8 by 1.25 by 3/4 and draw a line across. Then measure 1.5 inches in from that and draw a line across. After that make a notch like the on in the picture. When that is done all you have left to do is to put the 1.25 by 3/4 by 3/4 on the end of the side you measured on (pre-drill and put the 1.25 inch screws in.

Step 4:

All you have left to do is fill the jar of candy, like M & M's or any other small candy, and enjoy!
I was thinking about rounding the edges and I haven't been able to find a food safe sealer. Also you could use a larger nail but not to much bigger because the lip on the lid isn't that big.
<p>I like it, an alternative to a nail set is a heavier nail with the point flattened with a hammer. It's what I use because I can never seem to find a nail set when I need one.<br>Personally I think it would look even nicer sanded to 220, round over all the edges and finish with a food safe sealer, mineral oil is what I use.</p>
