Cardboard and Ductape Lego Storage Box - Caja Para Almacenar Lego De Carton Y Precinto

Hello Again! 
My son received from her cousin a bag full of lego pieces and the box where he stores the lego become little for all this amount of pieces. Also, with all that quantity and no sorting nor order at all is impossible to found nothing. I had only an option, build some storage boxes to store and order these lego pieces.

Isn't complicated at all, and have resulted pretty solid. Will do you see how I done it?

Materials and tools are really easy to find:
1 big cardboard plate up-cycled from a furniture's box,
Duct tape,
Cutter,
Steel square,
Metal ruler,
Pencil.

Hola otra vez! 
Mi hijo recibió de su primo una bolsa de piezas de lego con las que él ya no juega, y la caja donde guardaba las suyas, se quedó pequeña. Las pusimos en unos cajones de tela que tiene en su habitación, pero así era imposible encontrar nada, así que decidí armar unos cajas para poder guardar las piezas separadas por tipos o formas.

No es nada complicado y han quedado bastante sólidas. ¿Queréis ver como las he hecho?

Los materiales/herramientas, son de lo más sencillo:
1 placa grande de cartón recuiclada a partir de una caja de un mueble
Precinto de tela (¿Cinta americana?, ¿Cinta Chaperton?, aún no he descubierto cual es el nombre exacto en español...),
Cortador,
Escuadra,
Regla de metal,
Lápiz.

Step 1: Taking Measures - Tomando Medidas

We already got a big fabrics drawers, from Ikea, and we plan about our new lego storage boxes go inside these drawers.
This Ikea drawers measure 32 cm width, 28 cm length, and 20 cm hight.
Looking at these measures, our boxes need to be little bit less width and length and 9,5 cm height to fit inside the drawers we already got.
For one of the drawers I will do: 1 box with 4 compartments and other box with 3 compartments.
For the other drawer I will do: 1 box with only one compartment and another one box with 6 compartments.

The cardboard need to be cut in these measures:
For the 4 compartments box:
1 base piece, (31x27cm),
2 lengths pieces, (31x9cm),
3 widths pieces. (27x9cm)  one of them with handles.

For the 3 compartments box:
1 base piece, (31x27cm),
2 lengths pieces, (31x9cm),
3 widths pieces. (27x9cm) one of them with handles,
1 middle piece (12x9cm).

For the 1 compartment box:
1 base piece, (31x27cm),
2 lenght pieces, (31x9cm),
2 width pieces. (27x9cm),
2 extra pieces to be used as handles(18x15).

For the six compartments box:
1 base piece, (31x27cm),
3 length pieces, (31x9) one of them with handles,
4 width pieces . (27x9).

Cómo las cajas han de ir dentro de dos cajones que ya tenemos, se han de medir estos cajones. Estos miden 32 de ancho, 28 de largo y 20 de altura.
Al tener estos cajones una profundidad de 20 cms, decido que haré dos cajas compartimentadas para cada uno de los cajones.
Para un cajón haré: Una caja con 4 compartimentos y otra con 3.
Para el otro cajón: 1 caja con un solo compartimiento, otra con 6 compartimientos.

Para la caja de 4 compartimientos se han de cortar:
1 base, (31x27cm),
2 largos, (31x9),
3 anchos. (27x9) de los cuales uno, tendrá un asa.

Para la caja de 3 compartimientos se han de cortar:
1 base, (31x27cm),
2 largos, (31x9),
3 anchos. (27x9) de los cuales uno, tendrá un asa,
1 medio (12x9)

Para la caja de 1 compartimiento se han de cortar:
1 base, (31x27cm),
2 largos, (31x9),
2 anchos. (27x9),
2 piezas extra para ser usadas cómo tiradores (18x15).

Para la caja de 6 compartimientos se han de cortar:
1 base, (31x27cm),
3 largos, (31x9) uno de los cuales tendrá dos asas,
4 anchos. (27x9).

Step 2: Cuting - Cortando

With the steel square, the metallic ruler and a pencil, go marking the cardboard in accordance to measures taken before.
And with a lots of caution and a sharpen cutter, cut the pieces. Caution is very useful, if you forgot it, maybe you need to go to the hospital with one less finger ...And remember to use the metal ruler to cut it because is the best/only way to get straight edges.

Con la escuadra, la regla y el lápiz, se miden las piezas  a cortar, un buen cortador y con el debido cuidado para no tener que ir al hospital con un trozo de dedo colgando, se van cortando las diferentes piezas.
Recomiendo usar siempre la regla de metal para seguir la linea recta, ya que si no, lo más probable es que cortemos las piezas irregularmente y no quedara nada bien...

Step 3: Tappeing 1 - Encintado 1

For tappeing a good advice is to prepare some duct tape strips sticked on the table's corner to be used when we need it.

Place on the table the piece to be used as the base and around it, place the different side pieces separated by two or three millimeters from the base piece and joint that different pieces with duct tape.
Once we have the sides joined to the base, lift up two sides and joint them with tape to build up one of the corners. Repeat this for the other three exterior corners.

Nos preparamos varias tiras de precinto recortadas y las pegamos a un canto de la mesa para poder utilizarlas a medida que las necesitamos.

Colocamos encima de la mesa una de las bases. A su alrededor, colocamos los laterales en su sitio (largos en el lado largo, cortos en el lado corto) y los pegamos a la base dejando una separación de dos o tres milímetros para que más tarde podamos doblar por esta separación.
Una vez tenemos los laterales pegados,  levantamos dos lado que se toquen y los juntamos por el exterior con otro trozo de precinto. Repetimos esta operación para cada una de las otras tres esquinas exteriores.

Step 4: Handles - Asas

To make the handles on the boxes with compartments:
Cut one or two holes (it depend on your preferences, I do one with two handles and two with only one...) near to the  top of the central piece, with measurements of  10 cm width and 3 cm height.
If that holes have rounded-edges better than good, they looks prettier.
Also cut two cardboard pieces of 1cmX9cm. These pieces must be fixed on the top of the handler holes for give to them more resistance and comfortability.
To build the handles for the one compartment box:
Cut the four pieces like the ones you can see on photo 10 (on this step). The "U" shaped piece is to reinforce the "D" shaped ones. Once fixed one to another, they are more comfortable to pull up and virtually unbreakable. These pieces must be bended to allow them to fit into the drawer where this box goes.

Para las piezas que han de tener las asas, recortaremos un agujero de unos diez centímetros de ancho y unos tres de alto. Si estos agujeros los hacemos redondeados, mejor que mejor, quedará más bonito.
Se pueden hacer uno o dos agujeros (yo he hecho una caja con dos y dos cajas con uno sólo). Además, cortaremos unas tiras de unos 9 por 1 cm. que irán en la parte superior del asa para reforzarlas y hacerlas más cómodas.
Para la caja de un sólo compartimiento, cortamos cuatro piezas iguales a las de la foto 10. Las piezas en forma de "U" van pegadas a las que tienen forma de "D" para reforzarlas. Una vez pegadas en su sitio, estas asas irán dobladas para que quepan en el cajón donde esta caja irá finalmente.

Step 5: Tappeing 2 - Encintado 2

We now place the pieces that will form the different compartments.
For the different boxes we must use different techniques.

For the boxes with two or three compartments: take the central piece (usually the same one to which we have drilled the handle) and on the lower part (the one without handles drilled on), stick a tape strip as long as 3/4 of the piece's length and stick it with the base.
Now, with short tape strips joint this central piece with the lateral pieces. To stick the duct tape on the inner box angles take a tape strip bending it between finger and thumb and with a pencil or similar, help yourself to place the tape strip at position, first one side on one lateral, after the other.

For boxes with four or six compartments:
Cut the pieces that intersect one each other to joint them using (something like) finger joint technique. Fix them with some duct tape and, at the same manner commented before, fix on two of the sides a duct tape strip and place this joined structure on where it goes on the base.

If the box we are building has more compartments, take the pieces correspondant to this compartments and, again, stick on her base a duct tape strip to fix it to the base. And when in place, joint with the other pieces making contact with it.

Once all the pieces are in place, let's secure all the structure. For this we must cover all exterior joints and minimum one of the sides of each interior joints, get her duct tape strip. If we got enough duct tape, we can duct all joints, but for this project isn't structural necessary.

Pasamos ahora a colocar las piezas que harán los distintos compartimentos.
Para las distintas cajas, usaremos distintas técnicas.

Para las cajas con dos y tres compartimentos, buscamos la pieza que vaya a ir en el centro (normalmente la misma a la que le hemos agujereado el asa) y le pegamos en la parte inferior una tira de precinto que será la que juntará esta pieza con la base.
Con unas tiras cortas de precinto, juntamos esta pieza con los laterales a los que toque. Para pegar precinto en un ángulo interior, cogemos una tira de precinto doblándola entre el dedo índice y el pulgar y con la ayuda de un lápiz o similar, la colocamos en el ángulo y pegamos ahora un lado, ahora el otro.

Para cajas que tengan 4 o 6 compartimientos, cortaremos las distintas piezas para montarlas usando un encaje de diente. las aseguraremos entre si con una tira de precinto e igual que hemos hecho para la pieza central colocaremos en la pare inferior de dos de las piezas sendas tiras de precinto y pagaremos esta unión a la base.

Si para la caja que estamos montando van más separaciones, cogemos las pieza correspondientes e igual que hemos hecho para la pieza central, le pegamos en la parte inferior una tira de precinto que unirá esta pieza a la base. Y una vez en su sitio, juntamos esta pieza con las que la tocan.

Una vez tenemos todas las piezas a sitio, pasamos a asegurar toda la estructura. Para ello hemos de tapar todas las junturas exteriores y asegurarnos que al menos uno de los lados de cada junta interior tiene una buena tira de precinto. Si disponemos de suficiente precinto, podemos precintar todas las juntas, pero estructuralmente tampoco es vital (para este proyecto).

Step 6: Finishing - Acabados

For the finishing, put duct tape in all superior edges. In corners, cut the tape in diagonal to bend this triangle shaped piece to get a nicer finish.  We put so much duct tape as we want, always trying to avoid wrinkles as long as they ruin the final result.

Para los acabados, colocaremos precinto en todas los cantos superiores. Para las puntas y ángulos cortaremos el precinto en diagonal para una vez pegado el precinto, doblar esta punta y que quede más bonito. Colocamos tanto precinto cómo creamos , siempre procurando que no queden arrugas ya que afean mucho el resultado final.

Step 7: Fill and Play - Rellenado Y Jugar

Aaaand... Thats it!
It only rest to fill up all compartments with different kind of lego pieces and...
