Cartoon/Video Game Character Hair (Dr. Light Costume)

 by craineum
Featured
To complete the costumes this year I wanted to dress as Dr. Light from Mega Man (the creator/father of Mega Man & Proto Man).  Most of the costume was easy, lab coat, button down shirt (stuffed tummy), blue tie with white polka dots, brown pants, and dress shoes.  The hair and beard are something that I wanted to look cartoony like the Mega Man and Proto Man costumes.  I tried on a Santa wig and beard, but that mostly just frightened my 3 year old.  I decided to try something a little different from what i am used to seeing.

Over all I am happy with the results.  I wish I was better at sewing (or really just had my mother-in-law here for this), but I did the best i could with my skills.

Yes it make look more like an Old Elvis Santa, but that is basically what Dr. Lights hair looks like.

I am mostly writing this instructable as a generic way to create cartoon like hair, not specifically for Dr. Light.

this almost reminds me of the grandfather character (I forget his name...) in Steamboy.

I had to go look it up: Lloyd Steam, love that movie.

now you just need to convince two other friends to go as Edward and Ray Steam!

And he pulls another rabbit out of a hat.
Great job!
I really wish you were around when me and my best friends and former neighbors were enjoying MMgames. But then again I was no chopped liver. I made these helmets and mega busters my self and they weren't to shabby either. The only difference though is the fact I used paper mashe and then sanded them down for smoothness and then painted them with shinny paint. Topped it off with clear coating. Sighhhhhhhhh...........Good times!!!

Thanks :) That is very cool that took the extra time to get them smooth, shows dedication!

You have heard me tell this story many times before you sleep, this time listen carefully and I will tell you once again, this time understand that what I'm telling you, every single word is true...

Nice, Mega man was in my top 5 games on the nes. Usually in first place, when i was like 5 years old i played gravity man until I finally beat him and we're talkin' days here. then when I finally beat him i never forgot the "dance" that you do with him in order to net even get touched.

Nice work. The team is almost complete, you just need to paint a dog red and you've got Rush!

craineum (author) in reply to mikeasaurusNov 3, 2010. 5:43 PM
I have two dogs, so I thought about Rush, but didn't have the time, or really even what to do :)

Don't forget Roll. Or Dr. Wily. Heck, just make costumes for all the Robot Masters while you at it.

Gah... I think I am done playing this out now. Of course it is up to the kids, so you never know. I will be pushing for something new though.

Haha. You should change the theme soon too. I think you've contributed enough to Mega Man. You should try something else that no one has done before, like this. Maybe the Astro Boy costume you mentioned before that you were going to do?

I thought thsi was Old Man from Legend of Neil at first glance. But I am not disappointed with Dr Light; quite the contrary :D Nifty instructable!
