Yes I really would like to win the shopbot challenge, no more shaky hands to create beautiful works of art, when you accidentally cut off some important part of your project you have to start over, NOT with the shopbot CNC router!

We used to have this really terrible, tiny bathroom in the middle of what could be a really fantastic large room if it was removed!  But that's another story for another time.  It had this wide but small window close to the ceiling and as it didn't let in enough sunlight it was decided to enlarge the hole down to the floor.  This left a gaping hole in the wall to our courtyard - 2.1 metres by 1.5 metres - which meant we couldn't buy an 'off the shelf' door.  So long story short here is the progression of the CASTLE DOOR! (Mysterious music plays).

Materials:

5 Thick (5cm) planks to fit your door frame
Wood glue (lots)
Mullioned Windows
Nails to nail in trim
Screws for hinges
4 Large brass hinges
2 Brass Elephant door handles (or other)
1 Door lock with key (preferably brass)
Black gloss paint
A good primer

Tools:

Circular saw
Belt sander
Philips Screwdriver
Chisel

My internal doors which are only mdf with honeycomb card separating the mdf I converted to Gothic looking doors by cutting a rectangular hole in each and inserting a stained glass panel and then painting the doors black with oil paint and finishing off the paint with a wood texture which makes them look like they're made of solid wood. The only thing to be careful of with a front door is to make sure they are very secure for security's sake!

I read "castle door" and immediately thought "portcullis". While not a portcullis, its still a great 'ible, looks great. Good job!

I was going to call this 'gothic door', but I made a door which is much more gothic than this. Thanks for the compliments!

Simply gorgeous. The Mullion windows are great. Love this. :D

I think it might be due to the fact that the windows were turned sideways, thank you anyway!
