I was browsing reddit recently and came across a topic about cats wearing ties in an office. I'd say the majority of the responses were either "yay! cats wearing ties!" or "where can I buy my cat a tie?"

Well, You're in luck if your cat prefers bow ties. Or just wants to look like the Doctor.

I made this bow tie for our cats, and also drew out a pattern so the rest of you could outfit your cats as well.

(Luna is in the first two photos, Didi is in the last three and is very concerned about this whole affair)

Jessy! This is way too adorable! I can't wait to make two of them for my kitties Misty and Tommy girl. :) My son will think they're awesome too!

PS- your cat is so cute and regal!

I am totally going to make this. The hard part will be putting it on my cat. My cat attacks me whenever I try to pet him so I don't know if he will love wearing a bow tie. :D
jessyratfink (author) in reply to rrkroseJun 17, 2012. 9:32 AM
The best way to go about it is to put it on them when they're napping. :P

I typically follow that up by petting, but I guess you'll just have to wait it out until he stops freaking out that he's wearing something, hahaha

gr8 'ible!, i wish i had a cat (unfortunatly im landed with a bad tempered furry ball ov claws, with a personality sumware between freddy krueger and a hand grenade).

1 question, is your cat by anychants hard ov hearing? i used to have a pure wite cat, appropriately called "sooty", who was as def as a post, ive also had mixed cats that were manely wite and they had hearing problems too, apparantly it s sumkind ov genetic abnormality todo with them being wite, im jus curius to see if its the same over thare as it is here (scotland)

p.s want to get married? u r insanely cute!

AussieAnglerGal in reply to madenairyJun 10, 2012. 4:29 PM
hey madenairy, i read that pure white cats with blue eyes have a genetic problem that makes them deaf, was your kitty blue-eyed as well as white?
jessyratfink (author) in reply to madenairyJun 10, 2012. 10:42 AM
Nope, not heard of hearing. In fact, her hearing is maybe too good. :P

But I have met lots of people with white cats that were deaf, so it's not uncommon. I've just never had one, even with owning lots of white cats!
Ione in reply to madenairyJun 7, 2012. 3:08 PM
I love your description of your kitty's personality! May I borrow it? It fits a coworker to a T!
madenairy in reply to IoneJun 7, 2012. 4:23 PM
go for it
AussieAnglerGal says: Jun 3, 2012. 5:23 PM
awwwwwwwwwww Luna is a cute cat! (hehe, cute expression Didi on last pic)

this is quite cute although My Lucas sadly cant even wear a collar...keeps strangling himself.....

never the less its a VERY CUTE 'ible jessy! :D
jessyratfink (author) in reply to AussieAnglerGalJun 10, 2012. 10:47 AM
Thank you! They're the best. :D

That's mostly why I did velcro, I figured it would pull free. I've not had any issues with these girls and collars, but I have had other cats that always seemed to be hung up in something. I don't know how they do it!
AussieAnglerGal in reply to jessyratfinkJun 10, 2012. 4:25 PM
oh ok, i didn't notice it was velcro! well , if i do make it my new profile image will be my little sir regional in a bow-tie :D

this is really cute jessy! well done
Oryctolagus habilis in reply to AussieAnglerGalJun 7, 2012. 12:03 PM
I ALWAYS make sure my kitty wears a collar with a functioning quick-release clasp, though I know people who's cats trip them and they fall off within an hour, so they're of no use! I would say that as long as the velcro is a small enough piece that it will reliably pull free under the cat's weight (especially with all the extra snag points on the tie) this should be fine.
AussieAnglerGal in reply to Oryctolagus habilisJun 7, 2012. 6:04 PM
never heard of that kind of collar!

its no problem for us that lucas doesn' wear a collar as we live in the country

thanks 4 the tip..i'll look into it :D

Hehehe I put my little brother's hoodie on my dog once...he seemed warm
jessyratfink (author) in reply to HMiceJun 10, 2012. 10:43 AM
Ha, we've put one of my boyfriends shirts on our dog once. I think he actually like it. He didn't seem very happy when we took it off. :P
HMice in reply to jessyratfinkJun 10, 2012. 3:51 PM
The hood was kinda in his eyes so he basically just sat down and waited for us to take it off.
Honus says: Jun 8, 2012. 12:07 PM
Brilliant! I need to make them for my two kitties Max and Maggie. :)

Hahaha, is he on the fridge door? That's awesome. They're so cute, would definitely be heartbreakers with some bow ties. :D
Honus in reply to jessyratfinkJun 10, 2012. 2:44 PM
Yep, Max is blocking it so it won't close. After all, there could be something in there in there he might want. :)

You know the only reason that this got featured is 'cause of the cute kitty lol.
jessyratfink (author) in reply to sofiadragon1979Jun 10, 2012. 10:44 AM
Well yeah! I only feature things that include cute cats, probably most of my coworkers do the same. It is a foolproof way to feature good things.
sofiadragon1979 in reply to jessyratfinkJun 10, 2012. 12:28 PM
You can never go wrong w/ a cute cat involved.
abarr3 says: Jun 7, 2012. 7:21 AM
this is a good instructable but why on earth do people always insist on dressing up their pets has it ever ocurred to anyone that they dont like it
jessyratfink (author) in reply to abarr3Jun 10, 2012. 10:48 AM
Precisely why it was on them only for pictures. :P
spoonfeeding in reply to abarr3Jun 8, 2012. 3:05 AM
I think it is very difficult for cat owners to tell when their pet finds something disagreeable - cats are notoriously patient, tolerant animals, who will typically just passively accept any treatment without complaint. You have to really know a cat well before it will show any signs it doesn't approve of what you're doing (e.g., touching its feet or belly, bringing over strange cats to visit, or dressing it in Fall colors when it's really more of a Spring).
Muahahahaha says: Jun 7, 2012. 6:45 PM
I wear a bow tie now. Bow ties are cool.
jessyratfink (author) in reply to MuahahahahaJun 10, 2012. 10:47 AM
If only I had a tiny cowboy hat or fez too!
caityjay says: Jun 7, 2012. 9:08 AM
I'm going to have to see if my rabbit will put up with one of these. His name is Houdini, and he would look super suave in a black bow tie. :D
jessyratfink (author) in reply to caityjayJun 10, 2012. 10:45 AM
Oh oh oh, that visual is just too cute. More rabbits with bow ties! yes!
caitlinsdad says: Jun 3, 2012. 10:06 PM
Awwww, no Kiteman kat tie?

At least this one does not require a $10,000 laser cutter. It gets my vote..Very cool!...
kmn5 in reply to billbilltJun 8, 2012. 5:01 AM
and I just finished making the last payment on my stupid my laser cutter, what a waste of money, still in the box :(
Oryctolagus habilis in reply to billbilltJun 7, 2012. 12:04 PM
Exactly!
hammer9876 in reply to billbilltJun 7, 2012. 10:02 AM
This bow tie is adorable. Luna and Didi are adorable. And billbillt makes a very good point. Thank you, jessyratfink, for sharing a great idea that is an easy project. My black cats may get white bow ties.
