Step 3: Break the Nuts

Get your friend to "break" (loosen) the nuts holding the wheel on before he jacks the car up. Otherwise when he tries to turn them, the force he applies may rotate the wheel instead of turning the nut.
I'll bet the running commentary from bystanders was entertaining as well. Too bad you didn't record video with sound, huh?

Of course, the method works well for all sorts of braggadocious pursuits, especially "Manly" ones I think. I have used it to clean fish with remarkable ease, for example.
The limitation on my car would be the jack. It takes so many turns to get up and down. The actual replacement is fairly quick.
Waste of cyber space!
Whoa! I usually take less than five minutes, if this happens at a PM hour... about half an hour at any AM... :-P Like big floor jacks... hehehe... Good instru!
Is that ewilhelm in the yellow shirt??
Yes. He's handy to have around. But I should warn you that he's a bit slow changing a tire.
LOL!

I thought I recognized that hair!
I would highly recommend getting a t-bar style lug wrench, they are much easier to use and you can put a lot more force on them if the lug is real stubborn. Otherwise, nice instructable good photos and explanation.
you should carry one of those monkeys in your trunk from the commercial to change the tire for you.
to be safe you should tighten the bolts again after you have lowered the vehicle and removed the jack.
takes me less than five mins but I used to be a tyrefitter so i guess that's disqualified... the longest part is alway get the space saver that they attatch to the bottom of the car via the stupid long bolt under the boot(trunk fer yanks)
Yeah, figuring out how to get the spare off of the bottom of the car (step not pictured) was a whopping 3 of the 13 minutes! In my friend's defense, it wasn't his car. It was also the first time the owner of this car had had to change a tire on it. I think with a little practice it would go faster.
hmmm it's annoying tyre fitting because the cars are all different and trucks are a biznatch because there's only 3 ways to apply 500lbs of torque and pneumatic and petrol wrenches apply that to you the other involves a really long torque wrench with a lower weight limit of 8 stone joe joe, with a pistol style air wrench i could do four nuts in seconds they do one and don't have to centre the wheel on the hub the same way. and it's two guys to a wheel. (sorry I met a guy that did pit work and given our work he was slow as hell...)
Those nascar people can change 4 tires in 12 seconds. Now thats a skill!!
Speculation is the best part of my day! It's always fun to speculate :)
